Her Heart Her Terms (Lily and Xavier)

Chapter 424

After Lily had done the examination the other day, Terence had gone to see Marvin too. He'd happened to bump into Xavier then.

Marvin had been very straightforward with his prognosis. Lily's recovery could only be up to the point where she would be able to manage regular daily living with no issues.

During the early days of recovery, she would have trouble gripping onto her cutlery. Upon recovery, she wouldn't be able to use her right hand for fine motor movements, laborious work, or for long hours.

In other words, she would only be able to use her hand for approximately ten minutes when she fed herself.

Xavier's face had dropped after Marvin had explained Lily's condition to him.

In the end, Marvin had added, "She might get a little better if she's lucky."

It had been obvious that Marvin had simply said that to console Xavier.

At that instant, both Xavier's and Terence's faces had fallen.

When Lily had first been given a bad prognosis for her hand, they had looked for a better physician, feeling hopeful. But now, they had been told that her hand could never make a full recovery.noveldrama

"Mr. Fulton, would you like to explain this to the patient, or should I?" Marvin had asked Xavier for his thoughts while he'd organized his patient charts.

Before Xavier could answer, Terence had chimed in, "Keep this from her for now." Both Xavier and Terence were on the same page about hiding the truth from Lily. Nevertheless, Terence had been aware that they wouldn't be able to keep this from her in the long term. So, he'd asked Maryanne to sound Lily out over that call.

"Lily doesn't feel it yet because it hasn't sunk in for her. She's gone through too much recently. I'm afraid that she might not be able to take it if we drop another bombshell on her."

Lying prone on the couch, Maryanne lifted her head as she lamented over how unfair God was toward Lily.

Just as Lily hung up the call, Xavier entered the room.

He was carrying a thermos that contained food that the Fultons had sent over for lunch. Without saying a word, he put up a bed tray, opened the thermos, and then laid out the dishes before Lily.

He quickly studied Lily's face. Perhaps due to the serious conversation she'd just had, she still had a slightly worried look on her face.

Lily put her phone down. Watching Xavier's every move, she then commented, "Naomi went out to buy lunch."

"I told her to go have her lunch instead."

Staring at Lily's face, he continued, "Dad made these. He'll continue sending food here moving forward."

Naomi had bought four dishes, a soup, and two servings of pasta.

Even though Lily's hunger would be satiated, those dishes were not nutritious enough for her recovery.

Lily got out of bed to wash her hands. She decided not to argue with Xavier. After all, she wasn't going to starve herself.

With only one functional hand, she wasn't able to wipe her hands dry. Water trickled down her fingers before dripping down to the floor.

She put her hand in the air while she waited for the water to stop dripping from the tips of her fingers.

To her surprise, in the next moment, Xavier grabbed her firmly by her wrist. He then placed a white towel on her hand.

As he held onto her wrist with one hand, he used his other hand to dry her hand with the towel. After he was done, he hung the towel up. When he spun around, he noticed that she was still standing at the same spot.

He frowned. "Why are you still standing here? Do you prefer to have lunch in here?"

"Thank you," Lily blurted. Then, she turned around and walked out.

She could hear the sound of Xavier's footsteps behind her. Instinctively, she quickened her pace until she got back to her bed.

She sat down in bed. Simply based on the aroma of the dishes, Lily was certain that Shane had personally made these dishes. He had prepared a total of nine dishes, including a soup.

The soup was definitely one that had been simmered down for over eight hours.

However, Lily paused when she saw that there was only one set of cutlery.

Her right hand was injured, and she couldn't possibly use the cutlery with just one hand. Even if she could, why was there only one set of cutlery when Xavier was here too?

"Sit down and open up."

Xavier clearly realized the same issue. With a gloomy expression on his face, he picked the cutlery up. Thereafter, he asked, "Which dish would you like to eat?"
