Chapter 423
"It's been a long time since I stopped seeing myself as your wife."
With a calm composure, Lily added in a helpless voice, "No one will treat me like I'm your wife either."
Xavier stood up and walked to the window. He leaned against the windowsill as he fixed his eyes on Lily.
"The authorities will reach out to you really soon to inform you of the outcome of Bruce's case. When that time comes... I will publicly announce that you are Mrs. Fulton."
Lily's eyes darted toward him. "You're going to disclose my identity?"
"After that, you can be at ease about being my wife. You wouldn't have to work and earn a living."
When Xavier told Lily that she could be at ease about being his wife, he directed his gaze toward Lily's right hand.
He furrowed his brows slightly when he recalled Marvin's words.
Lily lifted her covers and got out of bed. Even as Xavier leaned against the windowsill, she was only up to his shoulder height.
She lifted her head to look at him. "Have you ever asked me for my agreement before making any decisions?"
Xavier could tell that she was against what he said.
He practically gave her absolutely no way to object by saying, "Why would you disagree with anything? I won't do anything to hurt you."
It was true that he wouldn't hurt her. Even so, he wasn't going to love her.
All of a sudden, Xavier's phone rang. He headed out to answer the call.
Lily was fuming. Xavier was being ridiculous, and she failed to find out anything about her hand injury. Instead, all she got out of him was that she "could be at ease" about being his wife. He made it sound as if they could turn back time as they wished.
As Xavier hadn't been going to the office lately, he had to handle most of his work virtually. Thus, he had double the number of calls he would otherwise have to
answer.
However, this call was simple and brief. After listening to his caller's update, all he said was "sign it" before ending the call.
He then turned around to head back into the hospital ward. Just as he placed his hand over the door handle, he heard Maryanne's voice coming from within. Lily was on a video call with her.
"I knew it! Xavier the Hound wouldn't be of any use even if he stayed back. I knew that he was going to hire a caregiver at the end of the day."
Maryanne had inquired with Lily about whether she had eaten. Lily had told her Naomi had gone to buy lunch, which had unleashed alf of Maryanne's feelings of
discontentment. en
Lily, on the other hand, remained calm. After all, she had never pinned her hopes on Xavier to care for her
personally. She even ended up consoling Maryanne instead
"Alright, simmer down. Otherwise, it's going to affect your appetite later."
Maryanne rolled her eyes. Her eyes darted away from the camera for a brief moment.
Then, she asked, "Have you gotten your examination results yet? Is this amazingly capable doctor able to help you with making a full recovery?"
"Nope."
Lily shook her head. But she had a bad feeling that it wasn't good news.
If her prognosis was good, why wasn't Marvin willing to share about her condition with her? Why did he insist that she inquire with Xavier instead?
However complicated a treatment might be, it meant having to prepare for the worst.
"Lily, what if this is just a hypothetical question-what if you can't make a full recovery? Have you considered what your future plans would be?" Maryanne asked.
Lily had. These two days, she had been wondering what she would do if she couldn't recover.
Subconsciously, though, she wasn't pessimistic about it. On the contrary, she was unrealistically optimistic.noveldrama
After pausing for a while, she said in an extremely soft voice, "This is my new target and motivation in life after deciding to get a divorce."
It was clear that she was greatly affected after losing her source of motivation.
Instantly, Maryanne understood that Lily's calmness stemmed from the fact that she had hope.
Maryanne's eyes darted away again. A few seconds later, she looked back at Lily and exclaimed, "You will recover from your hand injury. Take good care of yourself. Don't give up no matter what the doctor says. Is there anything you're craving? I'II make it for you and bring it for you tomorrow."
"You know I only have a few favorites," Lily answered unabashedly.
Being cooped up in the hospital ward every day was a challenge to her. At the very least, she could kill some time if Maryanne came over.
After hanging up, Maryanne placed her cell phone aside. She looked toward Terence and asked, "Terence, is it true that Lily won't be able to make a full recovery?"
With a grim look on his face, Terence nodded. "Yeah."
What do you think?
