Chapter 11
Adelie POV
'I'm watching you, Adelie. Don't do something stupid at the office' his words replay in my head as I drive down the road, and I feel shivers run down my spine.
It took me forever to arrive at the company, and once I park at the garage, I step out of the car and stride toward the entrance door, trying so hard not to appear miserable, because that is how I feel right now.
"Hey, sweetheart. How are you doing today?" Just before I take the elevator to the third floor where my office is, Cynthia walks elegantly up to me with a wide smile lingering on her face. Just how I wish I can be this cheerful, but it seems like it'll never happen. Not when my brother still lives with me.
"Cynthia... I'm fine. Did you sleep well?" I force a smile at her as we both enter the elevator, standing side by side.
"No, I didn't. I spent the whole night, thinking about my prince charming," She smiles creepily as she cups her cheeks in her palm, and I can't just help but roll my eyes at her. I'm sure she wouldn't even think of that if she knows the kind of person Asher is. How can she even have a crush on that terrible young man?
"Cut that crap, Adelie. Even you will be fooled by his innocent face if you were someone else," I remind myself and sigh silently.
"I think you should keep things slow, sweetheart," I say to her, and she scoffs.
"You know that I have been crushing on him for a long..."
"That was why I gave you his number. Didn't you call him?" I cut her off, glancing at her.
"No, I didn't. I was so nervous that I didn't call him," She replies to me, and I roll my eyes at her.
"Can you help me just this once? You can invite me over to your house when he's around, or maybe arrange a blind date for me with him," She pleads with me, and I shake my head unbelievably. The elevator rolls open just before I think of replying to her, and we step out of it.
"I will think about that," I reply to her as we walk down the hallway, heading to my office.
"Just name your price, sweetie. I promise to give you anything you ask for, just please do this for me... Just this once," She whines as she holds my hand, bringing me to a halt.
"Fine! Just stop embarrassing me. We will talk about it later. Just buy me dinner after work, and we'll talk about it," I yank her hand off before I walk toward the door to my office.
"I swear I'll buy you anything you ask. Thank you, sweetie," She yells after me, and I roll my eyes.Original from NôvelDrama.Org.
Finally stepping into my office, I release a sigh of relief as I throw myself on the chair, reclining on it tiredly.
'I'm watching you, Adelie' his words replay in my head for the umpteenth time, and I run my fingers through my hair like a crazy person. I think I've really lost my mind because Asher won't cease driving me nuts. "Good morning babe," My heart almost jump out of my chest when I hear that voice, and I quickly snap my head up to see Raymond smiling at me like he's Happy to see me.
"Goo... Good morning, Sir," I stutter nervously, turning my gaze away. I don't know whether Asher has a camera stalking me, but I can't take chances. I don't want him to scare me when I get home later again, so I need to stay far away from Raymond.
"Are you okay? Are you sick? Why do you look so pale?" He bombards me with questions, having a worried expression on his face. He tries to touch my forehead to feel my temperature, but I flinch and pull away from him. "What's wrong with you, Adelie? Is everything alright?" He asks as a thin line appears between his eyebrows, and I quickly nod my head.
"Ye... Yes... Everything is... Fine... It's just that we're in the office, and we should maintain the boss-employee relationship," I smile at him nervously, and he stares at me blankly for a few seconds before he smiles at me.
"I'm sorry if I pushed you too hard... I was just concerned. I will be in my office," He smiles at me, and with that, he turns and walks into his office. He looks so sad and disappointed, and I can understand that I'm faulty here. He wasn't trying to harm me but was just trying to make sure that I'm fine, and all I did was push him away. I wish he understands that I'm handicapped.
Taking a deep breath, I try to relax before I resume work a few minutes later. Pushing all the thoughts disturbing me to the back of my heart, I focus all my energy and attention on my work. The fact that I'm dating Raymond now doesn't give me the right to mess up at work, I know that.
The office phone suddenly starts ringing, and I pick it up without hesitation.
"Hello, who am I..."
"It's me... Come inside, now," Raymond's voice sounds through the phone, and the call drops dead immediately. I gulp down nothing nervously, tilting my head to see him sitting in his office with his full attention on the screen of the desktop placed in front of him. There's just a glass demarcating us, so I literally see him from my office.
Many thoughts rush through my mind as I drag my feet up and drag myself toward the door, and once I step into his office, he asks me to take a seat. This only tells me that he wants to discuss something, which I'm not even ready for. Maybe I should've just rejected him when he asked me out. I'm not brave enough to fight for us, so why the hell did I make the mistake of going into a relationship?
"I called you yesterday, but..."
"I'm sorry about that... My brother was messing with my phone," I quickly cut him off. I should've apologized first before he talked about it.

He stares at me with a look on his face that shows nothing but jealousy and anger. He has every right to be angry and jealous, because why not? No matter what, nobody should interrupt our call as his girlfriend that I am. "Don't be mad at me, I swear it..."
"Come on, babe... I'm not mad at you," He rolls his eyes and smile at me, but I can see that he's trying to hide his anger.
"Hmm," I slowly nod my head and gulp down nothing nervously.
"Babe... Can I ask a favor from you?" He asks after a long silence, and I raise my gaze to look at him.
"No, I can't do it," I wanted to tell him this knowing that I may not be able to, but I end up nodding my head instead, and he smiles.
He reaches out for my hands on the desk and holds them, but I slowly retract from his light grasp. I'm just scared.
"Are you okay? Why are you acting weird?" He asks, seeing the way I'm acting toward him.
"Yes, I'm fine. I'm just a bit sick," I lie to him, and he squints his eyes, suddenly looking so worried.
"What happened? Do you want me to take you to the hospital?" He asks me with concern written all over him, and I shake my head.
"You said you want to ask me of a favor," I remind him, getting overly curious.
"Yes... So, a friend of mine is throwing a party at his house in a few days, so I was thinking if we can go together," He asks, and my mouth drops open...
