Ultimate Evolution I Became the Master of the World

Chapter 11 I'm Going to Die

"The ghost's gone, man."

Michael retraced his steps, moving cautiously, but the ghost that had been on his tail was nowhere to be seen. He opened the bathroom door and stepped out, freezing in his tracks.

There was a familiar hallway. He glanced back-it was the classroom he had bolted from earlier.

He was back at the fifth-floor classroom door.

"What the hell? This door doesn't lead to the restroom?" Michael was getting more and more confused.

Suddenly, a weak, painful cough echoed through the hallway.

"It's you. How'd you get out of the classroom?"

A pale, gaunt dude in a trench coat was leaning against the wall, his bloodshot eyes watching Michael warily. "Nikolai?" Michael was shocked.

"I don't know what's happening either. Earlier, when I followed them out, a ghost dragged me into the restroom. After finally finding a way out, I opened the door and ended up back here."

"Is that so? It's because of the Ghost Realm. Looks like that ghost doesn't want to let you go."

Nikolai's eyes flickered slightly. "But a Ghost Realm only has one Vengeful Ghost, and that ghost is the old man. But he left earlier. The one you ran into must be a Ghost Slave."

"What's a Ghost Slave?" Michael walked over, curious.

Nikolai explained, "In the Ghost Realm, people killed by the Vengeful Ghost become Ghost Slaves. They follow the Vengeful Ghost's orders like slaves, hence the name Ghost Slaves. They aren't as terrifying as the Vengeful Ghost but are still a big threat to regular folks like you. This Ghost Realm hasn't been around for long, and a Ghost Slave has already shown up. You're lucky to be alive."

"But now's not the time to chat about this. It's good you're here."

He pulled out something that looked like a walkie-talkie from his coat.

"This is a satellite phone from Interpol. Take it and get out of here. If you make it out, someone will contact you. Just tell them everything that went down here." Nikolai said, his face twisted in pain. "What about you?" Michael asked.

Nikolai replied, "I'm at my limit. I used too much of the Vengeful Ghost's strength holding off that old man. The ghost inside me is about to wake up. Those who can harness the power of a Vengeful Ghost are called Ghost Handlers, but the ghost also gradually takes control of the Ghost Handler. Living like this is pure torture."

Before he could finish, he suddenly screamed in pain and collapsed, writhing on the ground.

As he struggled, his trench coat opened up.

Michael was horrified. Underneath the coat was a bulging belly, bigger than a pregnant woman's. The belly was kinda see-through, and inside was a baby the size of a four or five-year-old kid.

The baby was dark blue, with sharp nails and eyes without pupils. It squirmed and clawed at the belly, trying to rip it open and get out.

"What the hell is that?"

"A Ghost Baby, that's what the files call it."

Nikolai endured the pain. "When it first showed up in my belly, it was only the size of a thumb. Every time I use the Vengeful Ghost's strength, it grows. Even if I don't use the power, it still grows. It's eaten all my intestines and organs. Every day, I endure the pain of it gnawing at my insides. I can't sleep at night because of the pain.

"Even though my organs have been eaten up by this Ghost Baby, leaving only an empty belly, I won't die. For me, living is torture and death would be a relief.

"Go, take this phone and get out."

He tossed the phone and shouted, "If you don't leave now, the Ghost Baby will come out. Then there'll be two Vengeful Ghosts here, and it'll be even harder for you to escape."

Michael picked up the phone, seeing Nikolai's painful expression, and couldn't help but touch the back of his hand. He had felt that kind of pain before.

A Ghost Handler? Could he be turning into someone like Nikolai?

"Sorry to let you down. That old man was too strong. I couldn't hold him off and get you folks out. From now on, you're on your own."

Seeing Michael pick up the phone, Nikolai gave a bitter smile.

Michael said, "Since you know so much, why did you stay in the first place? You could've left safely instead of staying to die with us."

"Because I'm a cop and a Ghost Handler. Only people like us can deal with ghosts. If we're afraid of death, the world is doomed. I do this job not just for the country and the people, but also for my family and myself."

Nikolai's face twitched with increasing pain. He felt he couldn't hold on any longer and suddenly shouted, "What are you still doing here? Go, run!"

Michael didn't dare to linger. He gripped the phone tightly and ran.

"By the way, be careful of that student named Henrik in your class. I met him earlier. He's strange, not normal. He doesn't seem human, but I can't be sure. It's best to stay away from him. I've reported this and someone will investigate. Don't believe anything he says about the future. The research institute has done experiments on this. It's impossible for anyone to come back from the future."Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.

Nikolai shouted again amidst his painful struggle.

"What?" Michael turned back in surprise.

As soon as he turned, he heard a scream. He saw Nikolai's belly being torn open and a dark blue baby arm stretched out. The tear grew larger and the Ghost Baby's head emerged, curiously peering out like a newborn child. Michael quickly turned and ran.

He had just descended the stairs when the eerie wail of the ghost echoed through the hallway, announcing its arrival to the world.

The Ghost Baby slowly crawled out of Nikolai and his protruding belly deflated like a punctured balloon.

No blood flowed out and no organs were visible, only some blackened flesh.

As he had said, his organs had long been eaten by the Ghost Baby.

Nikolai's head tilted to the side, dead, but his eyes stared straight at the Ghost Baby crawling in the direction Michael had fled.

Fourth floor, third floor. "Great, I'm not lost."

Michael quickly descended the stairs, feeling a surge of joy.

He noticed that the stairs were no longer shrouded in darkness. Though dim, everything was visible and he didn't experience the previous disorientation.

No darkness, no getting lost. If everything was normal, it would only take a few minutes to leave the school.

When he reached the second floor, he saw David, Aria, and a few other classmates walking back and forth in terror. They held their phones, using the light to walk from one end of the hallway to the other, then turning around and walking back.

They had been doing this repeatedly, as if they were lost and couldn't find a way out.

"No, it's not that the Ghost Realm has disappeared, nor has the darkness receded. It's just that I can see through it all now." Michael's face changed slightly as he looked at the red eye on the back of his hand.

'Could this be the ability of a Ghost Handler? So, this eye is also a ghost.' He thought.

He remembered what Nikolai had said earlier. The Ghost Baby in his belly was initially the size of a fingernail and grew larger over time.

If that was true, what would the Demon's Eye on the back of his hand become? Would it also turn into a Vengeful Ghost and devour him? Thinking of Nikolai's situation, Michael looked at the Demon's Eye on his hand with fear.
