Chapter 736
Chapter 736:
Over the phone, Hadley gave a concise rundown of the previous night’s incident. “And then… I woke up at the hospital.”
“That’s not a good sign,” Dr. Duncan said, concern threading through his voice. “You’re at the peak of your ovulation period. The medication might have been too aggressive this time. Hadley, if you still don’t conceive this time… I wouldn’t recommend taking it again.”
Hadley forced out a response, her voice barely above a whisper. “Alright. We’ll see. Thank you, Dr. Duncan.”
The call ended with a soft click. Hadley lowered the phone to her lap, staring at the screen. The more she reached for something, the further it seemed to slip from her grasp.
But before she could dwell on the thought for long, voices outside her door drew her attention. Eric arrived at the hospital, his presence commanding even in his disheveled state. The exhaustion from a hangover weighed on him, but it was nothing compared to the sharp worry in his eyes.noveldrama
His voice was low, rough from tension. “How is my wife? What caused her to faint?”
The doctor, calm but serious, responded, “From an initial assessment, Mrs. Flynn appears to be physically weak. However, for a precise diagnosis, she should undergo a full-body examination today.”
“Alright,” Eric said, nodding once before pushing the door open.
Inside, a nurse stood by Hadley’s bedside, carefully helping her drink from a glass of water. As soon as she saw him, Hadley gave a faint smile. “You’re here.”
She took another small sip, her fingers trembling slightly around the cup. Eric didn’t move at first. He just stood there, staring. Her bare face, usually vibrant, looked pale and fragile under the soft morning light.

She was already too thin, but lying there now, bundled under the hospital sheets, she looked so small, so delicate, like she could shatter with just a gentle touch. His chest tightened, guilt coiling around his ribs like a vice.
The nurse helped Hadley settle back into bed, tucking the blanket around her before stepping away quietly. Eric moved forward, sitting on the edge of the bed. Without a word, he reached for her hand, cradling it between his own.
“Hadley… I’m sorry.”
He had ignored her calls. On purpose. Because of jealousy. Because of his own damn ego.
Hadley must have been terrified when she kept calling him, desperate for help, only to be met with silence. What had she felt in that moment? And if the cleaning lady hadn’t come back and found her in time…
He couldn’t bear to imagine what could have happened.
Without thinking, he leaned forward, wrapping his arms around her—blanket and all—pulling her into a desperate embrace. “I’m so sorry.”
Hadley didn’t resist. She couldn’t—her body was too weak. But even if she had the strength to push him away, what difference would it make?
As she lay in his arms, a thought surfaced—one she couldn’t shake. Four years ago, she had been in a hospital just like this. And just like now, he hadn’t been there when she needed him the most.
“Hadley?”
Eric cupped her cheeks, his thumbs gently brushing over her pale skin. His voice was raw with regret. “It won’t happen again. No matter what, I promise, I’ll always answer your calls…”
