The Day Our Promise Breaks

Chapter 364

Evelyn left with Wesley from the charming little town of Rosewood. Brooks was waiting at the entrance. The moment he spotted her, he hurried over. Despite having listened to everything outside and knowing Evelyn was fine, he couldn't help but give her a once-over, just to be sure. Charles stepped out just in time to see Evelyn getting into Brooks' car and driving away, a dark expression clouding

his eyes.

Back at Brooks' villa, Wesley was reeling from the day's events. He sat in a corner of the couch, head in hands, silent and withdrawn. Evelyn sat across from him. "Wesley," she said.

He ignored her, not bothering to look up or respond. Unfazed, Evelyn continued calmly, "If I hadn't taken you away today, you know what would have happened to you."

"I'm not some saint who helps someone who once tried to kill me without a good reason."

Wesley's grip on his head tightened. "You know what I want. You have a day to think about what you can offer me to keep helping you."

"If you can't, I have no reason to protect you anymore." She was pushing Wesley to hand over the dirt he had on Dahlia. "Think it over and give me a call."

After leaving her number on the table, Evelyn left with Brooks, leaving a security team to watch over Wesley. Wesley's eyes, partially hidden, flickered with shock. How did she know he had something on Dahlia?

At the hospital, Brooks had arranged for dinner, and he and Evelyn were there to dine with Josephine. Seeing them together made Josephine beam with happiness. She was quite fond of Brooks and could tell he genuinely cared for her daughter, Eve. Leaving Eve in his care gave her peace of mind.

Their relationship had been stuck, with the issue lying with Eve. So, when Brooks went to the restroom, Josephine took Evelyn's hand. "Eve, I know you can't let go of what happened with Charlie, but I hope you have someone to lean on, someone who will stand by you and care for you."

"Brooks seems like a good man."

With her health in question, Josephine worried that if something happened to her, Eve would be left alone and might fall apart again. So despite the timing, she brought it up.

"Mom..."

Evelyn started to protest, but Josephine cut her off, "Promise me you'll think about it, okay?"

"Alright," Evelyn agreed, unable to tell Josephine that she wasn't ready to be with anyone right now, so she nodded half-heartedly.

Just then, dinner arrived. Evelyn went to get it and brought it inside. She opened the package, noticing it was from Fiona's Garden, though she distinctly remembered Brooks arranging their usual from another place. Confused, she heard Josephine say, "Eve, this is from the new catering service at the hospital. The food is quite good; you should try some."

Realizing it was Charles who had arranged for Fiona's Garden to deliver the food, Evelyn didn't let her feelings show. She smiled and said, "No wonder you're treating me to

better meals than I can make" noveldrama

"You cheeky girl," Josephine lightly patted Evelyn's hand.

"I know you just want what's best for me," Evelyn replied, squeezing Josephine's hand in return.

She chose not to mention anything to avoid upsetting her mother. Like Evelyn, Josephine harbored a deep resentment for Charles. If she knew the food was from Charles, she'd be disgusted. As for Evelyn, she found Charles's gestures laughable. How could he think a few small favors could wipe away the pain he caused? Did he really think she was still the Evelyn who once loved him deeply? A slap on the face with a candy in hand could never make up for the hurt he inflicted.
