[Book 2] Chapter 68
Lorelai POV
The first hit isn't unexpected but it causes me to give a loud cry of pain as I clutch at my midsection. Jean Luc sneers at me "Our orders were to keep you alive, but I'm curious to see how much pain you can take."
To my surprise, he grabs my hair again and drags me out of the cell. All three men begin to shove and push me, causing me to stagger and stumble. This is a game to them, one they are highly enjoying. I fall into the arms of one and he slaps me across the face and pushes me into Jean Luc who throws me onto the ground and steps on my foot with a loud crunch. It hurts. I give another cry. He smirks at me.
"Does it hurt?" he asks, deliberately applying more pressure as I stare up at him, unable to move or push him off of me.
He lets go and then kicks me in the leg, causing me to double over and scream. He chuckles. "I love the sound of a good scream, especially when it comes to a woman."
Bastard. The other men chuckle as well. I can't let them keep doing this. They have the upper hand so long as they remain in a group. I need to take them by surprise. The door is unlocked to the room as far as I know and I focus on that. If I can get to the door, maybe I can make my way out. But I need to get past them first. That's going to be the hard part. I have to be clever if this is going to work.
I pretend to be stunned. I clutch at my leg. Jean Luc moves closer. I wait until he lifts his leg to stomp on me and then kicks out, hitting him right in the gonads and causing him to yell in surprise. I get to my feet and take off running, reaching the door and shoving it open. I slam it shut and run, taking down a corridor, while I hear the sound of running footsteps behind me. My leg is throbbing. There is debris all over the place. I glance behind me and see all three men gaining on me as I duck down a side corridor and into a room filled with crates and broken items.
Did they all see me run into this room? I duck behind a crate and wait. There's a large piece of wood next to me and I grab it, my hand shaking. I quickly dart to another crate, keeping myself hidden. The lighting is poor in this room, giving me the benefit of hiding in shadows and I hear the door tentatively open. It's one of the other men.
"Little girl" he sneers while I try to remain calm "why don't you come out before you get hurt? Jean Luc is very angry that you managed to hit him in the balls like that" he chuckles "If I were you I would surrender before he beats you to a bloody pulp or does something much worse."
I swallow hard and grip the wood tighter. I can hear his footsteps approaching. They are loud on the hard concrete floor. I can see his shadow moving as I begin to move around the crate. "Come out you little slut❞ he growls, and I can see him getting closer. He walks in front of the crate with his back to me.
This is it. This is the moment. I swallow back my fear and straighten up in one fell swoop, cracking him over the head with the large piece of broken wood. I hear a sickening thud as it connects with his skull and then he drops to the floor, hard. He doesn't move. I pant and grip the wood, quickly ducking behind another crate. Where are the other two men?
The door slides open, revealing the two left. s**t. I press against the crate and then dart across the room, keeping to the shadows. I sidle around a large pillar and press my back to it. My heart is thudding wildly. The other two men are more cautious then the first. "Come and play little kitten" Jean Luc chuckles, "it seems you have some spirit left in you after all. I do like a fiery woman, it makes the bedroom play a lot more interesting" he purrs.
I fight the urge to vomit. My breathing is shallow and I try to remain as quiet as possible. The other man gasps "Look, she got him. He's unconscious" referring to his friend.
"***" Jean Luc says dismissively "Be more careful. She's only a woman for heaven's sake."
I try not to scowl at that. The second man begins to hunt through the crates and boxes, looking for me while Jean Luc stands back, his arms folded across his chest. I close my eyes. I'm shaking so badly that my teeth are almost chattering together. This isn't like in the movies Lorelai. One wrong move and you're toast. There's nobody here to save you. You don't even know if Knox is on his way. It's you against two men. Be smart about this. Don't let them capture you. What they have in store is far worse than just them killing you.
I grit my teeth. The other man is drawing closer now. Jean Luc has disappeared through another door. It's an even playing field, or as even as it's going to get. I continue to move around the pillar as he gets close, praying hard that he doesn't hear the sound of my heartbeat or the sound of my heavy breathing. I wait, for the perfect opportunity. I wait until his back is to me as he begins to glance toward the windows and the broken glass lying there. I tiptoe out of my hiding spot and raise the wood, but at the last possible moment, he turns and raises his hand, protecting his skull from being hit, as I swing the wood at him.
“Ouch, f*****g b***h" he curses as I desperately raise the wood again, a murderous glint in his eyes.
I hit him and he reaches out and grabs the wood, yanking it from my grasp. He throws it away and grabs me, flinging me to the ground. I give a small cry.
"You want to play" he taunts as I shake my head and he climbs on top of me, my hands raising up to hit him weakly in the chest as he chuckles "We can play darling," he says, leaning in close and kissing me on the lips as I gag and heave from the feeling of his slimy lips on mine.
My hand reaches out, seeking, searching the ground while he continues to take liberties with my lips. It grasps a large shard of glass and wraps around it. I can feel my body tensing. He begins to rip at my shirt and that's when I strike. He's so focused on what he's doing that he doesn't notice what I have in my hand. I reach up and dive the glass shard into his neck, causing his eyes to bulge in panic. Blood spurts out everywhere, all over me, the floor, and himself as he stands up and begins to stumble away from me, clutching at his neck with his hands. I let out a sob and get back up as he turns to me, reaching blindly out with one hand. He falls, his body convulsing on the ground. He stills as I back away. Blood pools around his body. I have no idea what I've just done but he's dead. I've killed a man with my own hands. I feel sickened. Repulsed. I vomit to the side, wiping my mouth with the back of my hand.
I begin to limp towards the door. There's no sign of Jean Luc anywhere to be seen. I open the door cautiously and peer out the hallway. It's clear. I gulp and then quietly sidle out, closing the door softly behind me. I have no idea where I am but all I want is to find my way out of this massive maze like building and try to find some help. I would have given anything for a phone right then. It looked like that b***h Karen was long gone. I limped up another hallway and turned, coming across several more warehouse rooms, some with equipment in them. I find an exit door and heave a sigh of relief. All I have to do is get outside and run for help. I forget about Jean Luc. I forget about the danger. My eyes fixate on that exit sign. My body rushes towards it. forgetting all about the pain my body is in. This is it. I've made it.
My hand reaches out for the exit door and as it opens, Jean Luc tackles me to the ground, a glint in his eyes.noveldrama
"You little b***h" he snarls as I fight weakly underneath him, wincing from the pain in my leg "You killed one of my men" he growls.
I shove and push at him, kicking and flailing. He grabs my head and hits it on the ground, forcing a cry from my lips. For a moment all I see are stars as I fight to keep myself conscious. My thumbs reach up and press into his eyes, causing him to curse and swear, his body flinging itself away from me. I get awkwardly to my feet as he lets out a frustrated yell and turns back to me.
"I'm going to enjoy killing you, you little b***h. I don't care what Karen says, after what you did, I'm not about to let you live" he growls.
I'm panting and gasping for breath. My chest feels like it's on fire. My clothes are covered in blood. I'm exhausted. But I'm also not going down without a fight. I've spent too long taking everything that's been dished out to me. I've spent too long being a victim. I won't let him kill me without fighting back. He sees the look of determination on my face and he glares as he begins to stagger forwards. I turn and run, only to trip over a rock and fall on my stomach. I feel his foot connect with my stomach before I can get up. I scream and roll away, only to feel his hand grab my wrist and yank it. I bite him, drawing blood as he yells and drops his hand. The sound of a chopper causes both of us to look up into the sky. Hope begins to spark inside of me. Has Knox come for me? Or was I in even more trouble than I had imagined?
