Chapter 17 Mr. Carter's Kept Woman
As soon as Everett took off, Alexander strolled in and spotted the flowers on the table. He raised an eyebrow. "Someone been here?" Allison still agitated, said quickly, "Mr. Carter, could you get rid of these flowers?"
Without missing a beat, Alexander grabbed the bouquet and chucked it into the trash outside. He'd figure out who'd been there later.
Three days into Allison's hospital stay, Sophia's parents showed up, asking for forgiveness. Alexander was chilling in the living room when they arrived. They looked shocked to see him.
"Mr. Carter, didn't expect to see you here!" Sophia's dad, Nolan Brown, said, looking awkward.
Sophia's mom, Madeline Eve, looked all kinds of anxious. She wanted to see Allison, but with Alexander there, they didn't dare move.
Alexander asked, "Mr. Brown, you here to see Allison?"
Nolan nodded, and he and Madeline exchanged a look. Madeline spoke up, "Mr. Carter, we're here to apologize to Allison. Sophia was out of line and hurt her. We feel awful. If Allison forgives Sophia, we'll do whatever it takes!" Alexander gave them a cold smile. "How do you plan to shut Allison up? With money?"
Madeline decided to go for broke. "I know you're loaded, and Allison, being with you, doesn't need money, but..." Before she could finish, Alexander's face darkened.
What did she mean by "Allison being with him"? It sounded like she was implying Allison was his kept woman.
Alexander asked coldly, "Mrs. Brown, what kind of person do you think I am?"
Madeline, despite her disdain for their relationship, didn't show it.
She said, trying to butter him up, "Mr. Carter, you're obviously a big deal. No one in Skycrest is more powerful than you!"
Alexander sneered, "So, because I'm rich and powerful, helping Allison means I have ulterior motives, and she's my kept woman. Is that what you're saying?"
Madeline's face went pale, but she looked him in the eye. "Isn't it? If it weren't for that, why would you stand up for a young girl? If she hadn't latched onto you, how could she have done that to Sophia?"
Alexander stood up, eyes cold, ready to lose it when the hospital room door opened, and Allison walked out.
Allison shot back, "So, I deserved to have acid thrown on me by Sophia? No wonder she turned out like this; her parents' bad behavior rubbed off on her."
Madeline yelled, "Shut up! I know about you. You had an abortion in middle school. Someone like you deserves to be beaten!"
Sophia's arm was broken, a comminuted fracture, and now useless. Why? It was definitely related to Allison. And who else could have done it but Alexander?
Alexander snapped, "Mrs. Brown, you think your daughter is any better? She threw herself at Mr. Stevens to climb up the Stevens Family. She's the real disgrace! As for your slander against Allison, my lawyer will be in touch!" Seeing Alexander angry, Nolan panicked. They came to intimidate Allison, throw some money at her, and be done with it. But now, they were about to piss off Alexander. Nolan grabbed Madeline and slapped her. Madeline, holding her cheek, exclaimed, "How dare you hit me! They're the ones bullying Sophia!"
"You should leave. I won't forgive Sophia for intentionally hurting someone. She's an adult and must face the consequences. As for money, I don't need it, nor do I care for it!"Allison stated coldly. Alexander kicked them out, but the next moment, Allison kicked him out too.
Allison said firmly, "Mr. Carter, for my reputation's sake, I hope you leave. Don't come back here to avoid any misunderstandings that I'm your kept woman!"
Alexander wanted to argue, but he couldn't deny that he had started to care about her.
Frustrated, he left the hospital and called Mia. "I've arranged for a caregiver to look after Allison. You need to bring her to the hospital."
Mia agreed right away but was surprised when she saw the caregiver was Felicity, the housekeeper from Alexander's home. "Felicity, you're the caregiver Alexander mentioned?" Mia asked.
Felicity nodded with a smile and followed Mia to the hospital room. The moment she saw Allison, she was taken aback by her beauty.
Mia introduced them, "Allison, this is the caregiver, Felicity. Felicity, this is Allison Bennett, my best friend!"
Felicity greeted her warmly, "Hello, Ms. Bennett!"
Felicity, who was around fifty, looked kind and friendly.
Alexander didn't tell Mia about Nolan and Madeline's visit, and Allison didn't bring it up either. Whatever consequences Sophia faced were her own doing.
A week later, when Allison was discharged, Felicity followed her to the apartment. Seeing that Allison lived in Oceanview Apartments, Felicity's mind started to wander. "This is Mr. Carter's property," she thought. "It seems Mr. Carter really is hiding a beauty here!"
Mia, being carefree, wanted to stay with Allison, but Allison refused.
Mia pleaded, "Allison, you don't know how much I envy people who can rent their own place. Please let me stay with you."
But Allison still said no. She explained, "I'm used to being alone. Having too many people around makes me uncomfortable."
The main reason was that it would be inconvenient. There were some things Allison didn't want others to know. In the end, Mia had to go home.
After leaving the apartment, Mia called Alexander. "Uncle, did you do something to upset Allison? I wanted to stay with her, but she refused." Alexander asked, "So you got kicked out too?"novelbin
Mia frowned. She might be carefree, but she wasn't stupid. "Uncle, did you do something to make Allison unhappy?"
Alexander hung up the phone directly as James walked in. James said, "Mr. Carter, Mr. Brown is here again!"
Since the incident at the hospital, Alexander had canceled all collaborations between the Carter Group and the Brown Group. He even announced to the entire industry that anyone who worked with the Brown Group would be opposing the Carter Group. Within three days, the Brown Group was facing bankruptcy.
Alexander waved his hand, saying, "Not seeing him!"
Three days after being discharged, Allison went back to school. Seeing her return, Mia was overjoyed. "Allison, feeling any better?"
Allison smiled. She wasn't fully recovered, but she could manage her daily life.
"The school has been really strict these past few days. Those who used to hang out with Sophia were all called to the office and scolded. It was so satisfying!" Mia's smug look made Allison laugh.
Allison said, "Alright, focus on your studies. What happens to others has nothing to do with us."
Mia nodded. Wherever Allison went, she would follow. From now on, she was Allison's loyal sidekick.
There was one person who was very unhappy about this, and that was Yasmin. She hadn't expected Sophia to be so useless, not only ruining herself but also allowing Allison to come back unscathed. The more Yasmin thought about it, the angrier she got.
"Allison, just you wait!" Yasmin glared at Allison from a distance before returning to her classroom.
After class, Nola announced that the school's AI club was gearing up for a competition and needed five members. They currently had four, so they were looking for a new member.
For Class 8, this was merely an announcement because, as the worst class, no one could get into the AI club.
Of course, Allison wasn't interested.
Unexpectedly, she ran into Yasmin during the break.
"Allison, I remember you used to love playing computer games. Why don't you try out for the AI club?" Yasmin's words were followed by mocking laughter.
"Yasmin, you must be mistaken. I heard that Allison was at the bottom of her class in Avalon City and sleeps through most of her classes here. Someone like that joining a club? Dream on!" the girl next to Yasmin remarked.
