Chapter 431
I didn't expect to sleep through the night. It wasn't strange being back here, a little weird but oddly enough it felt as though I had never left. I was sleeping in my old room, in my old bed with my old sheets.
I grabbed my phone from the nightstand and rolled over onto my side. It was early and I could hear movement from downstairs, but I didn't want to get up just yet.
I was replying to Jake's message when there was a knock on the room door before my gran stuck her head inside holding a cup of coffee.
"I'll just leave this here". She spoke softly placing it on the nightstand. "Did you sleep okay?".
"Yeah". I smiled. "Thanks for letting me stay".
"This is still your home Leah. Infact it's more yours than mine". She chuckled. "So, thank
you for letting us stay". I didn't expect her to sit on the edge of the bed.
"It's still your house gran and all that money you gave me is still yours".
"No sweetheart that's yours to use whenever you wish and on whatever you want".
"I don't need it". I frowned.
"But one day you might". She grabbed hold of my hand. "And I can't leave this earth until I know you're settled and taken care of".
Leave this earth? Was there something she wasn't telling me?
"But anyway". She got to her feet. "Would you like some breakfast? I've made bacon and eggs".
"Waffles?". I smiled.
"Of course,". She grinned. "I'll fix you a plate if you want to get yourself sorted".
I had no clothes, and I slept in the clothes I wore last night but I did only live up the street, so it wasn't that big of a deal. I'm sure Jake would drop by soon anyway.
"Thanks gran".
"Your welcome sweetheart".
I didn't move straight away. I sat myself up and drank my coffee in bed. I always loved this room. It was the biggest and cosiest and I did miss living here. Being here reminded me of how it used to be.
Yes, it had only been one night, but it was mad that everything just fell back into place. Would my gran and George move into this house? Would she come back here permanently?
I placed my now empty cup onto my bedside drawers and got out of bed. I hoped I had maybe forgotten to pack a jumper. When I opened my closet, I smiled. I still had a few things here.
I didn't shower; it's something I would do when I was home. I used the bathroom, pulled the jumper over my head and made my way downstairs. Not to my surprise Jake was already here.
He should be in bed having been out all night.
The smell of bacon and eggs hit my nose, and my stomach growled. I always loved the way my gran made her eggs. They were always light and fluffy.
"Hey baby". He got out of his seat placing a kiss on my forehead.
"Shouldn't you be home asleep?". I frowned making myself a plate.
"Jake was just telling us that he got off early. Carter and your dad took the lead from midnight". George spoke.
Huh... I see.
I fixed myself a plate before joining them at the table. Again, it felt a little weird but at the same time it didn't. I hated the way my brain worked at times. This was normal, families are meant to have breakfast together.
"Do you have much planned for today?". My gran asked.
"We have lunch, don't we?". I asked.
"I can't make lunch sweetheart and seeing as your dad was patrolling last night, I thought better to invite you back for dinner".
Ah, nice save. I still wanted to know everything and by the way things went last night there was still so much more to tell.
"I can do dinner". I turned my attention to Jake. "Are you busy?". I wasn't sure if he was going to be patrolling tonight again.
"I have the young ones out tonight, Leah. But I can try and cut it short".
"No". I frowned. "It's okay".
"Babe".
"No really". I smiled. "They need you and it's better they learn from the best".

"I'll try and drop by; but if I don't get the chance, I'll see you at home okay". "Yeah". I nodded.noveldrama
"Tell me more about college". My gran spoke. "I want to know everything".
"There's not much to tell". I shrugged. "But I'm excited to start and finally work towards getting my degree".
"It is English Literature, isn't it?". She asked.
"Yeah". I smiled.
"Always did have your nose in a book when you were younger". She smiled. "Just like your mom".
I hadn't read a book in ages. I always had my head stuck in my kindle but recently I had lost interest. I had lost interest in a lot of things. But I was hoping with starting college I'd pick myself back up and get back into what I loved.
"How could you not have told him about mom?". I asked.
I probably shouldn't have asked but I couldn't wrap my head around George not knowing he had a daughter. He missed so much; he didn't get the chance to be a dad, and he never will.
"I wanted to". She spoke. "Every time I looked at your mom the guilt ate away at me. I wanted them to meet, I wanted George to be in her life but that's not the way it went for us".
"You could have told him, that day in the park. You shouldn't have kept that from him. Mom's dead, he never got the chance to know her and he-...". I paused.
Jake's hand reached for mine, but I pulled it away. I know I needed to calm down before things got heated. No one was to blame for things that happened in the past.
My gran did what she had to do. She did what she thought was best for her family.
