Chapter 37. Thwarted
Noah POV
Blearily, I looked at the house across the street with longing.
It was dawn when cars pulled up in the house’s driveway, causing me to straighten my back to watch with a hawk–like gaze.
The doors of the cars simultaneously opened to give way to its passengers.
My eyes widened when I recognized the similarities in their faces.
The Ford brothers are here.
Their arms were loaded with parcels and shopping bags. A smile broke out of my face. I would hazard a guess that they were for the triplets.
A gladness filled my heart knowing these men doted on my children even when they were not blood- related.
“You should have brought a cart. Here, let me help.” A curly–haired woman said to a Ford brother.
The shopping bags transferred hands, and they marched up to the house.
When they disappeared, I heard a noise, much like a holler.
“Riley, Mason, Brixx! Dada is here!”
The others shushed him while the lights came on.
The house previously shrouded in darkness had been filled with light.
Everyone was talking all at once, and then I heard shouts of glee from little voices and a stampede of little footsteps. I grinned goofily at the sound.
My children. They are awake.
I realized with the arrival of the rest of the Fords, there was no way for me to confront Briana.
I have to find a way.
“Chris, what is my schedule for today?”
I woke up Cris from his sleep in the passenger seat. At first, he looked at me blankly.
“What is my schedule for today?” I repeated impatiently.
Chris sat up straight and took his scheduler out to check. Exclusive © material by Nô(/v)elDrama.Org.
“A breakfast meeting with Mr. Harris to close the deal on the new lounge chairs. Then afterward, you have a management committee meeting, and by three pm, you are invited to the grand launch of Rosewood Hotel.”
My eyes sparkled at the prospect of seeing Briana again.
“Cancel all my meetings and leave only the Rosewood Hotel’s launch in my schedule.”

I looked at Chris‘ sleep–deprived face and announced.
“Let’s take the morning off and report after lunch,” I told him.
Chris looked gratefully at me.
I demand most of his time and make him work at ungodly hours. That’s why I compensated him every mid -year and year–end.
He receives a fat bonus from me. I reward people’s hard work.
I got inside the car, started the engine, and drove away
I dropped Chris off and went to my apartment. When I parked my car in my designated parking space, my eyes squint when I saw Britney at the entrance, looking very bored.
She checked her watch and made a face but quickly hid the expression when she saw me walking in.
Disgust filled my eyes. I looked at Britney coldly and asked harshly,
“What are you doing here? Haven’t I made it clear that we are through?”
Isaw her flinch, and it made me guilty. But then, I was reminded of what she had done to me in the past and assumed a cold stance.
Britney had to understand we can not go back.
“You said. But I am not accepting it, Noah.“.
I sighed.
“Where have you been? You weren’t home last night. You weren’t at the office either.”
My face hardened. “You have been stalking me.”
Britney looked ready to cry – a far cry from her true nature.
I looked at her sharply.
I cannot be relenting on my stance. Not now when I finally realized what I wanted – my children and Briana.
“We are done, Britney. Over.” I told her in a voice filled with undisguised annoyance.
“Don’t do this to me, Noah.” She was begging, and I could see people’s heads turning our way.
It annoyed the h*ll out of me. Britney sure changed drastically. From a demanding girlfriend, she had become close to begging.
My eyes narrowed. One thing I hated most about people was when they tried to manipulate me.
“Don’t make a scene. We already talked about this. I can’t be with you anymore.”
“Is this because of your ex–wife? She cheated on you, remember?”
My expression soured, and I looked at Britney waspishly.
“She has nothing to do with it. This is between you and me. Leave her alone.”

Britney’s face turned bitter.
“Ever Since she showed up, you had been cold to me, Noah. I can’t help but drag her name to whatever was happening between us. She destroyed us.”
I shrugged.
“No.” I countered.
“Just accept it. We are done. Have some pride. Stop showing up here or at the office looking pathetic.”
“I love you.” She said, and I winced in distaste.
Her words meant nothing because Britney never loved anyone but herself.
Now, I know the truth. I remembered every detail of why I canceled our engagement.
I ignored her and marched up to my apartment. Britney tried to get in, but I slammed the door on her face.
She had to understand that I meant what I said.
When I reached my apartment, I walked straight to my bedroom. On the way, I reached the pedestal in the hallway and dropped my keys on my way to my room. When I reached it, I dove straight to the bed, face-
first.
A goofy smile played on my lips at the thought that I would be seeing Briana again.
“Briana,” I muttered her name before falling asleep.
