Chapter 184 Blatant Targeting
Seeing Levi's smug attitude, I could only chuckle before stepping on the gas. "Alright. Let's go."
Along the way, Levi and Eric bickered as usual. I listened silently, not bothering to get involved. After a while, they both suddenly stopped talking and stared at me.
I blinked in confusion. "Is there something on my face?"
Eric said first, "You seem a bit down today."
Levi, surprisingly, agreed with a nod.
I was surprised that such a small shift in my mood was noticed so quickly. After some thought, I decided to tell them what happened at work today. While Harvey's behavior wasn't exactly a threat to me, I had to admit that it did put me in a low mood.
It was not because I was being ostracized but because I hated seeing Brown Group filled with employees like him.
After listening, Levi was furious. "That bastard actually dares to mess with you? Jane, you should teach him a lesson!"
"How reckless," Eric said with a scoff, rolling his eyes at Levi. "There's no point in confronting him now."
I nodded. "A long game catches the bigger fish. I want to see just how far Harvey thinks he can go."
...
Much to my surprise, Harvey gave me an opportunity sooner than I thought.
After about a week in the company, other than Heather, who messaged me daily, no one else spoke to me.
As for work? There was almost none.
Harvey didn't assign me a mentor, and the others were too afraid to interact with me. I was being completely sidelined.
Usually, when employees realized they were being isolated, their morale would drop, and many would end up resigning voluntarily. Not
only did stay, but I remain Note
cheerful every day, happily working on my own things at my desk.
Harvey couldn't stand it anymore and finally tossed a folder onto my desk right before clocking out.
"We have a contract negotiation with his company in two days. You'll be
responsible for the presentation. The information is inside."
Without waiting for my reaction, he turned and walked away briskly.
I stared at the folder. It was a long-term business partner of Brown Group, and
previous contracts had always followed a 50-50 profit split.
However, since recent projects were primarily led by Brown Group, the company now wanted to renegotiate the split to 60-40, with Brown Group taking the larger share. Even though it was just a 10% difference, over a year, it amounted to at least 20
million dollars.
It was such an important project, and Harvey planned to dump it on a new hire?
If I failed, he could fire me for
incompetence, and Brown Group would suffer the consequences of a failed negotiation. If I succeeded, he would take my work and claim all the credit. A cold smile crept onto my face.
Heather, noticing my expression, immediately started typing nervously.
"Are you okay? This report should've been done ages ago! Now, he's dumping it on you. He's clearly targeting you!"
I sent her a reassuring emoji, followed by a message. "It's fine, I can handle it."
Even without turning around, I could feel the admiration in her gaze.
"Jane, you're the first person I've seen who isn't afraid of Harvey at all! You look all soft and gentle, but you're quite the fighter under that gentle facade."
I smirked but didn't reply, focusing on my work instead. By the time I looked up,
most of the office was dark, and I was the only one left in the workspace. I checked the time and noticed it was almost 10:00 pm.
"Jane, I'm about to call you a workaholic."noveldrama
I froze for a second, thinking I heard Eric's voice.
What do you think?
