Chapter 29

Chapter 29

“Patricia, do you have a special someone? I’m still single!” Eric said, trying to flirt while Brantley was on the phone. All content is © N0velDrama.Org.

“Even if I didn’t, you’d never be my type. It’d be a waste for a hottie like me to settle for

r someone like you,” Patricia shot back.

“Not very nice, Patricia, Eric said, shaking his head in mock disappointment.

“Sorry, this ship has already sailed, Patricia quipped.

While this was going on, Andrew noticed William, his technology department colleague, still typing away non–stop. “Can’t you take a break, William?”

“There’s still work to be done. We don’t have any tasks here yet anyway, William replied, adjusting his glasses and continuing to type.

The team Mikayla picked was young, which meant no generation gaps. She preferred young employees because senior staff, while talented, often lacked passion and tended to be conservative. Plus, they had been at Salvatore Group long enough to be influenced by people with ulterior motives. Mikayla didn’t want her hard work to be undone by internal politics.

Just then. Mikayla stepped out of the office with her phone after learning that Quinnlyn had picked Maxius up and they’d arrived downstairs. She tried calling Juliet but got no answer. Worried, she called Carlos, who reassured her that Elvis had taken care of Juliet. Mikayla felt relieved, figuring Juliet was still sleeping off her hangover.

“Guys, I’ve put together a rough assignment for our work here. I won’t be too different from your previous jobs. Maxius will be here soon, and we’ll discuss more then,” Mikayla announced. She handed Patricia a stack of forms to distribute to the

team

“Achool” came a sneeze from afar.

That turned everybody’s heads as they directed their focus to the entrance.

Everyone turned their heads toward the entrance. A guy bundled up like a burrito, with only his eyes showing, shuffled in like a tortoise. Quinnlyn followed, dragging a silver–gray suitcase

“Pift!” The team could not help laughing.

Mikayla felt exasperated, thinking Maxius must have missed her last text reminding him to dress warmly. Xosa’s weather was no joke.

Indeed, Maxius had missed the message. Before boarding, he was focused on getting to Xosa to meet Mikayla and turned off his phone. Plus, he had chosen to wear a shirt he thought made him look good, completely ignoring the cold. He was too narcissistic to notice how everyone else was dressed for the weather. He only cared about looking stylish.

“Pardon me, just a common cold,” Maxius said, waving at the team. Then he sniffled and walked up to Mikayla, whom he had been thinking of nonstop. Now he just wanted to cry. If he hadn’t been in such a rush, there was no way he would have failed to make a stunning appearance.

“Well, this is Maxius Lark.” Mikayla then introduced him to others, “This is Team B–of our marketing department. Let’s work hard and build some great results over the next three months. We may have to pull some all–nighters, so be ready for that.”

Mikayla’s words hit like a bombshell, causing a wave of groans from everyone. For office workers, there was nothing worse than having to work overtime.

“But your hard work won’t go unrewarded, Mikayla added. Tll ash for more bonuses and benefits that other departments don’t get Just between us.”

The “stick and carrot” approach worked perfectly. As soon as they heard about bonuses and perks, everyone’s eyes lit up.

Most of them lived payeneck to paycheck, so a bit of extra cash Was more than welcome.

Pleased with their reaction, Mikayla grinned. “Since it’s our first day, spend some time getting to know each other, Maxius,

come with me.”

Maxius watched her with admiration. He knew Mikayla often downplayed her talents, but seeing her shining like this was unexpected. She was so captivating that anyone would be easily impressed.

In her office. Mikayla set the air conditioner to 82 degrees Fahrenheit, but Maxius still refused to take off his layers.

Noticing this, Mikayla pondered for a couple of seconds before voicing. “Maxius, name your price for that idea before.

Maxius looked puzzled.

“I used your idea without asking. Just tell me how much you wan, Mikayla explained.

you had

Maxius pulled down the towel covering his mouth, revealing his handsome face. “Ah, I thought I had done something wrong. Just use it–I’m all yours now, anyway!

Much to Mikayla’s expectation, Maxius was always skirting on funny business.

“I can’t lie. I’m not used to this country after growing up abroad, It’s said that your family’s quite rich, but I didn’t expect it to be true.” Maxius looked around the office. “Mikayla, I heard that you and Jaxon are getting married. When’s the wedding?”
