Chapter 33
Chapter 33 Do We Know Each Other?
Jackson wasn't pleased; he dragged her to a nearby spot, his expression darkening.
Emily's attention was all on Allen Parker; she didn't notice Jackson's worsening mood.
Allen Parker had the demeanor of someone in power. He spoke with poise and carried himself with grace, a mature and successful man, much like Mr. Satan. And then there was his face...
Emily recalled Mr. Satan's jawline in her mind. She had been too shocked earlier to take a good look at Allen Parker's jawline.
"Emily," Jackson couldn't bear it anymore, "Are you infatuated?"
Emily snapped out of it, "What?"
"You've been staring at my brother, what's the meaning of that? Are you smitten with him already?"
Emily didn't know how to respond.
Seeing her silence, Jackson became even more annoyed, "Say something!"
Emily felt that while she initially found Jackson intimidating, today, upon their second meeting, she realized he was just a big boy with a bad temper.
She explained, "I just thought your brother resembled a friend of mine, so I glanced at him a bit more."
Jackson, with an edge in his voice, asked, "A friend or a boyfriend?"
"Boss," Emily said, "I've already pretended to be your girlfriend in front of your brother. Isn't today's task completed? I'd like to go home."
Jackson grabbed her, "Do you think five million is so easily earned?"
"What else do you want me to do? Just tell me, and I'll do it."
Jackson was at a loss.
What did he want her to do? He didn't even know himself.
Yesterday, he inexplicably wanted to see her and ended up waiting at the hotel entrance early in the morning, hoping to catch her with another man.
He hadn't planned on attending today's event, but upon seeing her, he suddenly wanted to bring her along to show her off to his brother.
Jackson felt his behavior these past few days was a bit abnormal.
He let go of her, "You can leave."
Emily frowned, standing still without saying a word.
"I said go. I don't need anything from you anymore."
Emily took a deep breath, trying to keep her tone soft, "Boss, I overstepped today. The five million reward is too much; I'll return it to you. I have to take lunch to my dad at the hospital. I'm leaving. I'll prepare well for the upcoming car show and won't disappoint you." Jackson held a tall glass, swaying the dark red liquid inside, "Are you in a hurry to go back to the hospital to see your dad? I thought you were..."
I thought you didn't want to stay with me. Of course, Jackson didn't say that out loud.
He stood up, "I'll walk you."
"No need, you just arrived. Stay a little longer. The bus stop isn't far from here; I can walk."
Emily remained polite and distant throughout, leaving Jackson feeling that his warmth wasn't reciprocated. He was unwilling but helpless, so he let her leave.
As she exited the private club, Emily took a few deep breaths.
Last time, her attempt to uncover Mr. Satan's secret had upset him. This time, regardless of whether he was Allen Parker or not, she didn't want to probe further. She didn't want to make Mr. Satan uncomfortable.Belonging © NôvelDram/a.Org.
There was a reason he wore a mask, wasn't there? And he had said that when the time was right, he would reveal himself without the mask, showing her his true face. Adjusting her skirt, Emily headed toward the bus stop.
Just as she took a few steps, she heard someone calling her from behind.
"Emily."
Emily turned around to see Allen Parker holding her purse as he chased after her. "You forgot your bag on the seat."
She stopped, politely greeting him, "Thank you, I was careless."
Allen Parker smiled, somewhat surprised, "Are you walking alone? Didn't Jackson offer to take you?"
"He did mention it, but I have other things to attend to, so I'm leaving first. I apologize for not saying goodbye to you."
Allen Parker handed her the bag, thoughtfully saying, "Do you have something to say to me?"
Emily hesitated, "No."
"Emily, pardon me for asking, but since we entered the hall earlier, you've been staring at me. Have we met before?"
"I don't think so," Emily didn't know how to respond, "Anyway, thank you. There are still many people waiting for you inside, so I won't delay you. I'll leave first." "Wait," Allen Parker stopped her, "Where are you going? Let me give you a ride."
Emily widened her eyes in surprise. What did he mean by this?
Was he about to confess?
Or was he unhappy about her attending as Jackson's girlfriend?
"Let's go; it's not convenient to talk here. We'll chat in the car."
Allen Parker's car was quite different from his brother Jackson's. Jackson liked flamboyant styles and colors, while Allen Parker's car was much more understated. Allen Parker drove smoothly and patiently asked, "Where are you headed?"
"Charlie Cross Hospital."
"Okay," Allen Parker nodded, reminding her, "Seatbelt."
Emily blinked, "Oh, okay."
She had even forgotten to fasten her seatbelt...
"Emily, you seemed hesitant to speak to me several times. Can you tell me why?"
Emily furrowed her brow, "Mr. Parker, actually, I'm not Jackson's girlfriend. I'm just his makeup artist. I don't want to deceive you or give you the wrong impression."
Allen Parker didn't seem surprised, "No wonder you haven't looked at him once during the whole time. This kid is probably pretty upset today. Before, women used to flock around him, but today, he's completely defeated in front of you." Emily clasped her hands on her lap, "Mr. Parker, may I ask you a question?"
"Please go ahead."
"Do you have a Maybach?"
Allen Parker chuckled, "Your question sounds like you're prying into my personal affairs."
Emily hurriedly denied, "That's not what I meant; I just..."
"I do," Allen Parker said, "All my cars are black."
"Thank you for answering me," Emily sincerely thanked him, "One more question. About a week ago, there was a party on a yacht by the seaside, and many famous people attended. Did you go?"
Allen Parker recalled, nodding, "If you're talking about the time when Nathan's ex-wife had a quarrel, then yes, I was there."
He paused, then laughed, "Speaking of which, Emily, you look quite similar to Nathan's ex-wife."
Emily was suddenly taken aback.
"I was just joking; I hope you don't mind."
