Chapter Fourty Four
Chapter Fourty Four
Corinna
A faint beeping reaches my ears as the darkness engulfing me slowly begins to fade, blinking my eyes
a few times before I finally force them to open regardless of the blinding fluorescent lightening.
After seconds of soft shuffling, Kai picks himself off his seat next to my hospital bed to help me sit up.
When he readjusts the pillows behind me, he walks to the portable table as the foot of the bed to pour
me a cup of water from the plastic jug that has left a ring of condensation on the light wood.
" Is the baby okay? " I whisper, my voice cracks as I do.
Handing me the small cup of water, Kai places himself on the edge of the bed beside me. " Jen said
the baby is fine, heart beat is strong but she also said that you can't do anymore spells that wipe you
out like that. " He informs me.
Nodding my head, I gulp down half of the water in my hand. " I.. How long was I out? " I mumble.
" Coming up on three days. " He sighs, it's only now that I notice how exhausted he looks. Deep bags
weigh under his slightly bloodshot blue eyes, his skin is paler than usual, his shoulder length hair is
gathered into a lose and messy bun at the back of his head.
" You haven't slept at all? " I ask him, to which he just shakes his head, confirming my thoughts. " Have
you fed? "
" We ran out of our blood supply yesterday, I was going to send Olive and Phoenix to collect some if
you didn't wake up by tonight. " He tells me, gripping my free hand.
" I'm sorry. " I mutter, looking down at our hands.
" Don't scare me like that again. " He whispers, squeezing my hand affectionately.
" I won't. Are we going home soon? " I question, making a small smile grace his face. " What? "
He shrugs. " Nothing, I just like hearing you call my house your home, my darling. "
Rolling my eyes, I raise an eyebrow at him. " Well? Can we go home? Or do we still have to sit in
meeting rooms for hours on end arguing with the wolves of this pack? "
" Actually, after what you did for their Luna, this pack - for the most part, have completely changed their
feelings toward you. Alpha Jack and Gia came to visit once we knew you and the baby we're all good,
we came to an agreement to be allied with one another. If they need our help, we'll be there and visa
versa, we're all welcome on each other's lands and everything in between, it's not just about peace, it's
about friendship. " He explains, giving me a warm smile.
" That's a relief, now take me home? " I start moving to get off of the bed, but he stops me.
" I'll go get Jen, she has to double check you and organise a date for her to come to our house to do
your next scan. " He says, as he walks across the room to open the door, he mumbles an I love you
before exiting the room.
Jen comes to do her check up, then when I'm finally cleared to go home, she hands me an Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.
appointment slip with information on when she'll be travelling to the house and she also scribbled her
work number on the slip in case I need anything in the weeks before my scan.
It takes longer than I wanted it to pack, for us to say goodbye to everyone and finally start our journey
home. Kai remains in the back seat of his car with me, gripping my hand in his the entire time. Sabine
is in the front seat, driving in silence, the only noise filling the air is the low melodies on the radio and
soft snores of exhaustion coming from my mate.
We do end up stopping a couple of times throughout our journey so that the group can feed, the idea of
them feeding from innocent people puts me on edge, but once Kai promises me that they don't feed to
kill, only erase the memory of the encounter so their kind remains a secret, I'm only slightly
uncomfortable.
When he refuses to leave my side to feed, I end up allowing Kai to take small drinks from my wrist, just
to keep him going until we're home. He wasn't exactly thrilled with the idea, but when I agreed to let
him feed me his blood each time so I was puncture free, we gave in.
After what feels like a lifetime we finally reach the house, Dahlia immediately comes to greet us and
help us with our luggage, asking about my well being. Kai and I decided that we would tell everyone
about my pregnant status over a family feast, as he called it.
Dahlia didn't appreciate being left in the dark, so she grabbed my luggage as an excuse to follow me to
my room and try to pry the information out of me. " Come on! We're pretty much sisters now that you
and my brother are beloveds! Just tell me. " She whines, as I push open my bedroom doors.
" I told you, you'll know everything soon, I'm just too tired right now. " I half lie, tossing myself onto my
bed, sighing happily at the feeling, forgetting all about my plan for a shower.
She lets out a gasp, making me look at her but her eyes are fixed on my lower stomach. " I wanted to
catch you lying about being too tired.. So I was listening to your heart but.. I got
two heartbeats. "
" Are you telling me this whole time someone could have used vamp hearing to tell me I have a bun in
the oven? " I growl in annoyance.
" You're pregnant! " Dahlia squeals happily. " I'm an aunt! "
" We're not telling people yet, we're waiting until I'm a bit further along and then we'll tell everyone. " I
inform her, but from the corner of my eye I catch a glimpse of Olive standing in the door.
" You're pregnant? " Her eyes are wide in shock.
" Yes, but people aren't supposed to know yet, Kai and I are gonna have a family dinner to tell
everyone the news. " I ground out, narrowing my eyes at the two of them. " So no one says a word.
"
