Chapter 224

Alister's gaze bore into mine, piercing and razor sharp, as we finally closed the gap between us. His stance was calm, yet I could sense the brewing of tension he was trying to bury in him. I can feel the shift, the hidden rage beneath the surface.
Alpha Xadeon," his tone is mocking with warmth he did not feel. He tilts his head slight- ly, the look of cold fury flashing in his gaze as he peered at me. " Much better is it not?"
I let out a low growl. I could see his men tense, see him tense, and feel the rustle of energy from the trees around, from the men who were hidden amongst them. They were waiting for a signal, something, and anything to have them come out and attack.
We could not afford a war, that I knew. Espe- cially not now when Avery was still vulnerable and everyone's heads were not really there. The growl died in my throat and I showed him my neck in submission.
Something my beast did not like however we needed help from the hunters that would close in. They already knew Fay was Avery's mother, it was only a matter of time until they get here.Published by Nôv'elD/rama.Org.
Alister flickered briefly to Kaylee and I tensed. His eyes narrowed. The way he looked at her made my wolf stir uneasily, and one glance at Xaden lets me know he felt the same way, es- pecially with how his aura shifted.
Alister's lips curl into a sly smirk. " I see you have a new addition....a rogue," he tilts his head, studying Kaylee hard. Xaden angled his body closer to Kaylee protectively, making Alis- ter shoot one of his eyebrow up in surprise.
His eyes sweep between Kaylee and Xaden be- fore his eyes stopped on Kaylee and narrowed in thought. "I know you," he commented dryly, his eyes moving away from hers to shift beside me where Henry stood quietly.
"The same filthy rogue girl who is supposed to be dead," he raised a brow in mocking chal- lenge to Henry. However the growl that rocked through the air did not belong to Henry but Xaden who even took a step forward. Alister's eyes snapped to Xaden in surprise.
'Back down, don't be so quick,' I warn Xaden through our mind link. I know he was upset by Alister's words but him not thinking before he acts may cost us everything we were trying to fight for.
Another low growl rumbled from his chest but he listens to my warning and shifts back to Kaylee's side, this time so close they were plas- tered.
Alister watch Xaden like a hawk, his eyes shift-
ing from Kaylee to him before he opens his mouth to speak. "I see what is going on here," he murmured in distaste and brought his eyes to me." Shift," he commanded.
I do, not sparing a second because it was bet- ter to get everything over with. Henry also shifts, making Alister glare at him bitterly. How- ever Henry does not back down. " You spared a dirty rogue I ordered you to kill!" he snarls at Henry.
You ordered me to kill the guilty, those who slayed the innocent. She, the girl, Kaylee is not guilty and is the innocent we swore to protect." Henry utters boldly without stuttering.
Alister stiffens, his energy moving from irrita-tion to fury." It was a direct order! Yet you de-fied me," he snarls, his men waiting for his command to strike if he sees us as his enemy.
Henry doesn't flinch. "I won't kill an innocent, rogue or not. You have nothing to prove she has done anything to harm our kind."
Alister's eyes narrowed." Her father blood runs through her veins. She is already tainted,"
Henry shook his head. " Since when are you not just Alister? Since when do you blame the chil- dren for what their parents have done? The girl deserves a chance. You know more than any- one that a child is not what their parents are."
Alister's gaze turns ice-cold." She's an untamed rogue that you hid amongst you, defying my or- ders-
"She's not a rogue. She's my son's mate. She's part of our family," I cut in fearlessly.
