of her coffee out of boredom.
A bitter, rich flavor spread across his palate.
He frowned, not expecting Rachel to have her coffee without sugar. It was pure bitterness.
Matthew set down the cup. He’d experienced enough bitterness in his childhood, and he now preferred to live a flavorful life instead.
This kind of coffee wasn’t to his liking.
Rachel remained silent after she hung up. Seemingly contemplating something, she frowned. She took a sip of her
coffee after a while.
Furrowing her brows, she asked, “Did you drink my coffee?”
She had made a cup of coffee, but it was already down to half a cup when she hadn’t even taken a sip.
Matthew nodded. “Yeah, it’s quite bitter.”
Rachel was dumbstruck. She had shared a cup with him and even drunk what was left in it.
“Matthew, you’re too much! How could you share a cup with me?”
Matthew was unbothered. “What’s the big deal? We’ve already slept in the same bed anyway.”
“Why, you!”
Outraged, Rachel was rendered speechless. Glowering at him, she resembled a kitten with its tail being stepped on.
Matthew drank in the sight before him. Rachel looked like an ice queen when she was expressionless, but she was surprisingly cute when she got angry.
Just as he became lost in her beauty, his phone suddenly rang. He glanced at it and realized it was Jenny
Seeing that Matthew intended to answer the phone, Rachel was annoyed. “You haven’t explained why you did that. Explain yourself before you answer the call.”
Matthew ignored her and answered the call. “You”
Jenny’s sobs echoed from the other end of the line when he’d just barely uttered a word.
“Help, Matt! Save my brother! Please hurry and come. I’m at the clinic.”
Matthew’s heart raced at her alarm. Jenny sounded devastated, It was like the desperate cry of a dying beast. Her voice was filled with despair and desolation.
Not having much time to think, he responded promptly. “I’ll be there soon.”
He hung up and turned to Rachel. “I’m taking a day off. I need to go out.” He spun around and left right away.
As Rachel watched him leave, she huffed. “I didn’t even approve your leave! I have yet to settle the score with you for drinking my coffee.”
With that, she took her coffee and was about to pour it into the trash can. Her foot was on the pedal, prompting the lid of the trash can to open as she hovered the cup above it.
She suddenly paused.
Rachel brought the cup to her nose tentatively and sniffed it. Matthew’s scent seemingly lingered on the cup.
Frowning, she stared at the cup for a moment and finally lifted it to her lips. She stuck her tongue out and tasted the coffee.
She smacked her lips and savored the coffee, realizing that the coffee tasted different from before. Her cheeks flamed as she took another small sip. Closing her eyes, she savored the taste of the coffee carefully.
She felt as if his scent was all over her palate.
A car sped down the lane, overtaking all the other cars along the way.
Finally making it to Jenny’s clinic, Matthew rushed inside and found Jenny bawling her eyes out on the ground. He helped her up in a haste and questioned, “What happened to your brother? Where is he?”
