Married At First Glance: I Am Not Ugly

Jessie Shock

Jessie was silent for a moment, thinking about what Alex had said. Then she spoke.

“I…I understand what is going on. So you used that as an excuse to leave me to marry her.”

“No, you never wanted to get married. I discussed with you that this contract meant so much to me, but you never budged and kept on saying that your promotion meant more to you than anything else. So I improvised and one thing led to the other and we fell in love.” He admitted.

Jessie scoffed.

“So it’s my fault, right? Is that what you’re saying?”

Alexander shook his head.

“No one said it’s your fault. I was ready to choose you over her because I didn’t want to hurt you, but you betrayed me, Jessie. You went on a trip and you and Jaime spent the night together.” He said, anger in his voice.

Jessie, looking shocked, tried to speak, but words weren’t coming out.

“You thought I wouldn’t know huh? When the asshole came to my office and revealed himself, that you and he are having fun. I asked Anderson to do an investigation and he found out that you and Jaime were cozy together in Singapore.”

Jessie shook as she realized that Alexander had found out about her affair with Jaime.

“It…. It… Was a… a… um… mistake that shouldn’t have happened.” She stammered as her hands kept shaking.

Alexander’s face was red with anger, and he was having a hard time controlling his emotions. He took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down.

“You cheated on me,” he said, his voice low and dangerous. “You went behind my back and betrayed me. How could you do that to me?”

“I know it was wrong,” Jessie said, her voice trembling. “I was wrong, and I’m sorry. I never meant to hurt you.”

Alexander was silent for a moment, and then he spoke.

“I don’t know if I can forgive you for this.”

There was silence between them as none knew what to say.

But Jessie broke the silence.

“So because… I cheated, you decided to choose Marissa over me?”

Alexander stared at her with anger.

So she wasn’t remorseful for her actions.

“So you feel that what you did wasn’t wrong huh, Jessie?” Alexander said as he clenched his fist in anger.

“I… told you then that I wasn’t ready to get married but not that I won’t get married, but you made a decision behind my back and you felt it was the right thing to do under normal circumstances.” She said as she folded her arms looking at Alexander.

Alexander shook his head.

“I see now, that you would never accept that you did wrong.

I Alexander Shim never betrayed your love or cheated on you. Yes, I grew feelings for her but was ready to forgo it to just be with you, but when Jaime kept shoving your affair down my face, I knew that he wanted to destroy my relationship with you so that he could be with you.” Alex said.

“Is that really what you think?” Jessie asked, her eyes wide with shock. “You think that Jaime has some kind of ulterior motive? That’s crazy!”

“It’s not crazy.” Alexander said. “Jaime has always been competitive with me, and he would do anything to get ahead. You know that as well as I do.”

“But that doesn’t mean that he was trying to ruin our relationship.” Jessie said, still trying to process the idea. “I think you’re just being paranoid.”

Alexander sighed, feeling exasperated.

“I just don’t understand how you can’t see what’s going on here.” he said. “Jaime has always been jealous of me, and he’s been trying to one-up me our entire lives. It’s not paranoia, it’s reality.”

“But why would he want to break us up?” Jessie asked, genuinely confused. “I don’t understand what he has to gain from that.”

“You’re the most important thing in my life.” Alexander said, his voice raw with emotion. “If he can’t have you, then he wants to make sure that I can’t have you either. That’s why he told me about your affair. He wanted to create a wedge between us so that he could try to worm his way into your life.”

Jessie looked at Alexander, her brow furrowed in thought.

“But that doesn’t make sense,” she said. “Why would he go to all that trouble just to try to get with me? We’re not even that close.”

Alexander sighed again, running his hand through his hair. This content © Nôv/elDr(a)m/a.Org.

“I don’t know what’s going on in his head,” he said. “You sleeping with him was the mistake you made and so he knew that when I found out, I would break up with you. So he threatened to reveal my marriage contract if I didn’t hand over the business contract I got in Switzerland to him because he wanted to gain you and the contract together to be able to beat me. But I refused to give in to his demands and chose Marissa and chose to make our marriage real instead of a contract and decided that I don’t have to give in to his demands.” Alex said.

Jessie was silent for a moment, taking in what Alexander had said.

“I had no idea he was so manipulative,” she said, sounding a bit lost. “I feel like I was a porn in someone else’s game.”

Alexander didn’t say a word as he looked at Jessie who kept shaking and realized that Jaime used her for his gain.

“I guess, you never knew the devil you were sleeping with huh while pretending that you loved me huh?” Alex said, his face showing disgust.

“I…. i.. don’t know…” She stammered as words failed her.

Alexander stood up and spoke.

“I don’t think we have anything else to discuss. So I will take my leave,” he said that and walked out of the cafe leaving Jessie in shock at what she just heard.
