Chapter 3298 Cole
As the vehicle moved forward, the road turned back into a dirt path. That familiar sharp, pungent smell filled the air once again, and Shawn's face twisted in discomfort like he'd just sucked on a lemon. Halfway down the road, Matthew spotted the same group of kids they had seen earlier that morning.
"Hey, it's the mister!"
"Mister, did you already beat up the bad guys?"
"Mister, I told my mom all about it, but she said I was making it up! You've gotta back me up!"
A chorus of excited voices greeted Matthew as he stepped out of the car, and the kids swarmed around him, chattering nonstop.
Matthew smiled warmly at them and answered, "Yep, I took care of the bad guys. Starting today, you won't have to pile trash on the sides of the road anymore." "Thanks, mister!"
"Mister, you're awesome!"
"My mom didn't believe me, but I'm gonna go tell her right now!"
The kids scattered in all directions, eager to share the news with their parents.
Matthew's gaze settled on one boy he'd noticed earlier. While the other kids had already run home, this one stood there, lingering.
Sensing Matthew's attention, the boy sniffled. Then, he gathered his courage and spoke up. "Mister, I wanna be just as strong as you someday!"
Matthew chuckled and ruffled the boy's hair. "Why do you want to be like me?"
The boy looked down, deep in thought, before lifting his head and declaring loudly, "I... I want to protect my mom so no one can hurt her!"
Matthew looked into his bright,
determined eyes and gently
squeezed his cheek. "Do you really want to be like me? It'll be tough, and you have to work really hard Are you sure about it?" en
The boy nodded firmly, his eyes shining with admiration.
"Alright," Matthew said with a smile. "I'll teach you, but first, I need to meet your mom. If she agrees, then we can start."
The boy's face lit up with excitement. "Thank you, mister! My mom calls me Cole; you can call me that too!"
Matthew smiled at the boy, taking in his simple, slightly dusty clothes and his bright, expressive eyes. "Alright, Cole it is."
He signaled to Shawn to find a spot to wait where he wouldn't be in the way while Matthew followed Cole through a series of winding paths between houses. When they arrived at a small, slightly cleaner house, Cole hesitated, looking embarrassed. "Mister, this is my home... It's a little dirty inside. I'll..."
His voice trailed off as his mood darkened. Head hanging low, Cole couldn't bring himself to look at Matthew.
Matthew placed a hand on Cole's head, gently ruffling his soft hair.
don't see any dirt. If you're not worried, why should I be?" he said and walked straight into theold, modest home.
Seeing Matthew enter, Cole's face brightened into a smile, and he quickly rushed ahead to guide him through the small space.
In the tiny yard, a frail woman sat on a small chair, carefully weaving a doll. When she saw Cole leading Matthew toward her, she put her work aside cautiously.
"Cole, who's this?" she asked,
looking at Matthew with a mixture of
curiosity and warmth. Something about him seemed trustworthy, and Cole's beaming face only confirmed it.
"Mom, this mister is amazing! He chased off all the bad guys at the dump!" Cole exclaimed, running over to his mother and grabbing her hand excitedly.Belongs to © n0velDrama.Org.
