Love That Wasn't Meant to Last

Chapter 9

Just like my marriage to Selena, it was useless no matter how hard I tried.

Selena's eyes widened in shock when she saw my allergic reaction, and she quickly threw away the cake. She rambled frantically, "I'm sorry, I didn't know! I just saw you eating them often, so I thought mangoes were your favorite.

"I had no idea you were allergic. But you never had a reaction before. Hud, are you lying to me? This can't be true."

What she thought she knew was just her imagination. I sighed and shook my head helplessly. "Selena, just go back. Aren't you happier with Zion than you are with me?

"How could you say that?" Selena was clearly hurt by my words but continued trying to reassure me, "Hud, believe me, you're the one I love most. Zion is just a temporary replacement—he can never take your place."

Oh, Selena. If only Zion could hear these words, how heartbroken would he be?

My phone kept buzzing with notifications. When I checked, I noticed Zion had spammed me with multiple messages and pictures of them together, smiling brightly in various locations.

"Selena is happy with me," Zion's message read. "I know she won't divorce you because she can't let go of your history together, but I'm confident her feelings for you will fade soon. Selena is mine, and you can't take her away."

If Zion were not afraid of crossing Selena's boundaries, he probably would have sent photos of them in bed. Looking at the pictures on my phone, I knew I could not trust Selena anymore.

As she continued rambling, I lost my patience and showed her the photos. I stated firmly, "Selena, we're done."

She could make promises of forever one moment, then be with someone else next. It was just who she was; she would never change—not for me or anyone. I knew that now.

"Look how happy you are with Zion-even happier than when you're with me," I said, swiping through the photos one by one.

"See all these places? They're the ones you told me you wanted to visit but never did. Now you have another man taking you there. You have someone else in your life now, and you don't need me anymore. Please let me go. I'm exhausted."

Selena stared at the photos, speechless for a moment. Then, she grabbed my arm and shook her head desperately. "Hud, I'm so sorry. I know I was wrong."

She broke down sobbing, which pained me to watch, but I had to stand firm. We needed to end this because I simply could not accept it anymore.

I pulled my arm free from her grip and took a deep breath to steady myself. "Enough, Selena! You never truly loved me!"noveldrama
