Chapter 24
Chapter 24
Scarlet had no choice but to accept Evie's request and go to the top floor.
Standing in the elevator and staring at the changing numbers in the small screen, Scarlet felt like her
heart was about to beat its way out of her chest.
Fortunately, Lenny's office door was closed, and his assistant's office door was open.
Scarlet knocked on Drake's door and came in, which surprised the man.
He stood up immediately and flashed her a polite smile.
"Miss Brown? What are you doing here?"
Scarlet pointed at her work card and said, "I'm here to take your measurements."
"Oh, I see. Come on in."
"I'll measure your shoulders first." All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.
While she was recording the data, Drake's landline phone rang. It was Lenny calling.
"Drake, can you come in here, please?"
"In a minute, sir," Drake replied immediately.
Then, he looked at Scarlet apologetically.
"I understand. Work comes first. Go ahead. I have nothing else to do anyway. I'll wait for you here."
"You can go to the lounge and wait for me there. There are desserts, coffee, and magazines there to
help you pass the time. I don't want you to get bored waiting here in my office. If you don't see me in
fifteen minutes, then just go back to your office. I will come see you next time."
"It doesn't matter. This is my job. You can go ahead with yours."
Scarlet walked to the lounge area and picked up a fashion magazine to read.
After some time, she had finished reading the magazine, but Drake hadn't come out yet. It had been
half an hour since he went into Lenny's office.
At this moment, another secretary led someone into the lounge.
"Mr. Foster is still busy, Mr. Burke. Please wait here for a moment."
"Okay, no problem."
Scarlet recognized him. He was with Lenny last time at the restaurant.
Obviously, Tripp Burke also remembered her. After all, Tripp witnessed Lenny saving her from a
drunken stranger.
"Hey! It's you!"
Surprised, Tripp came over and sat very close to Scarlet in an instant. The advance made Scarlet
uncomfortable, so she distanced herself from Tripp.
"So, you're here. Are you Mr. Foster's woman? I heard that he's been obsessed with a girl lately. Is she
you?"
"No. I don't know Mr. Foster personally."
"You don't know Mr. Foster, but he saved you at the restaurant?"
"It was just a coincidence." Scarlet prevaricated and lowered her head, afraid that Tripp would see the
guilt in her eyes.
Tripp thought for a while. He heard that Lenny's mysterious lover was beautiful but ill and that Lenny
had to take her to the hospital often. But the woman in front of him was glowing with health. She didn't
seem sick at all.
Since she claimed that she didn't know Lenny, Tripp thought that she was fair game.
Last time at the restaurant, Tripp noticed that Scarlet was pretty although she looked weak. He was
attracted by her bright eyes that were like curious obsidian orbs.
At the moment, he was close enough to her to smell the faint scent of jasmine coming off of her clear
skin.
She was wearing a white T-shirt and a pair of jeans, looking clean and beautiful. She was like a little
flower bud that was getting ready to bloom. She looked quite young, too, like a girl at the cusp of
womanhood.
Eventually, Tripp felt hot and bothered. He reached out and put his hand on Scarlet's thigh.
Shocked, Scarlet immediately stood up, frowning at Tripp.
"What are you doing?"
"Are you an intern, sweetheart?" Tripp looked at her work card and said with a grin, "Your life must be
hard. You're the one who does all the dirty and heavy work, and your salary is meager. Why don't you
come work for me as my secretary? I'll give you a salary of fifty thousand dollars every month. You
don't need to do anything. You just need to stay by my side and look pretty."
Tripp reached out once again and attempted to brush his fingers on Scarlet's cheek, but Scarlet
slapped his hand away with great force.
"Wow, you are so feisty. I like it."
Tripp's lewd smile made Scarlet's skin crawl.
He continued to approach her. She quickly retreated.
