Felicia cringed away from her brother.

Micah's eyes were burning brightly with fury, scaring her.

She took another step back.

She was scared of her big brother, but she refused to be led away like a dog on a leash in front of so many people, especially Darya Miller.

She struggled to break free of Micah's hold. 'I'm not leaving. I'm staying with my friend.'

Micah knew what his sister's weakness was.

He threatened, 'Come with me now, or I'm putting you on the next flight out of the country.'

Like what he did with Regina.

Felicia froze.

She stopped struggling.

Micah nodded at Darya, then left with his reluctant sister.

The crowd dispersed slowly.

'Show's over.' Darya glanced at the buffet table. 'I'm hungry."

She took Timothy's hand. 'Let's go and sample the cranberry brie mini tartlets.'

Timothy remained rooted on the spot.

Darya saw the dark look on his face. 'What's wrong?'

'Is it true?' His voice was grave.

'Is what true?'

'What she said.'

'Felicia?' Darya tilted her head. 'She said a lot of things tonight. You'd have to be more specific.'

'She said Micah only married you so you'd donate blood to another woman, a woman he's in love with.'

Darya recalled the arrangement she had with Micah. 'It's true, mostly."

Felicia neglected to mention that Darya was the one who coerced Micah into marriage.

Thinking back, Darya realised that Regina Fischer was the true beneficiary of the arrangement.

Darya herself got three years of marriage out of the deal.

Micah, in contrast, got nothing.

He had to tolerate living under the same roof with a stranger and could not have a legitimate relationship with

his true love.

In hindsight, the marriage was a mistake from beginning to end.

Darya felt slightly guilty.

Which was why she tolerated Micah's uncharacteristic approach.

His sudden interest in her was puzzling, but she was sure that with time, he'd

'How could he do that to you?' Timothy clenched his fists.

'Hmm?' Darya's mind was pulled back to the present.

'How much blood did you give to that woman?' Timothy demanded.

'Depends. Sometimes 300cc, sometimes 400.'

"It happened more than once?' Timothy raised his voice.

'Shh.' Darya put a finger to her lips when she

saw people looking this way. 'It's a deal I made with him.'

'But it's wrong!'

'I know that now. I shouldn't have done it.' Darya patted his hand. 'But it's over

now. Come on, let's forget it.

I'm starving.'

Timothy looked like he wanted to say something, but he held his tongue.

For the rest of the night, he waited on Darya hand and foot, treating her like a fragile porcelain doll,

When the party was wrapping up, he looked straight at Darya. 'I just booked a doctor's appointment at Hagen General tomorrow. You are coming with me.'

'Why? Are you feeling unwell?' Darya touched Timothy's forehead. 'You look fine to me."

'Not for me. For you. I want you to have a thorough check-up.'

'What for? I'm perfectly fine.'

'I insist.'

'But I have work tomo-'

'Please. Will you do it for me?' Timothy looked at her earnestly, pleading.
