Chapter 45
Chapter 45 Kid Brother
The entire incident was recorded on tape.
Howard Banks was not going to be a problem.
'You look unhappy,' Timothy pointed out.
'I'm just thinking.' Darya glanced out the window.
Less than two months ago, being out on the street after nine pm had been a luxury for her.
Now she was free.
'About?' Timothy prompted.
'Just work stuff.' Darya was wondering where Sharon was.
The woman left the room with the excuse of visiting the ladies'.
She was probably waiting for the drug to take effect before coming back to catch Darya and Howard 'in the act.'
How would she feel when she discovered her plan had failed?
'So you are not thinking about Micah?' Timothy asked again.
Darya patted Timothy's head. 'Nope."
Micah belonged to her past.
She was grateful for his rescue tonight, though she had not really needed it.
But it didn't mean she wanted to get back together with him.
Timothy watched her face for any tell-tale signs.
Reassured that she was telling the truth, he relaxed.
As he navigated the car around a bend, he asked, as casually as he could manage, 'So, you are my girlfriend now.'
She didn't object when he called her 'babe' in the club.
She said he was ten timers cuter than Micah Cavanaugh.
She even held his hand when they left.
All these were signs that she liked him, Timothy thought happily.
Darya chuckled. 'You know that was just an act.'
She ruffled his short hair. 'You are like a little brother to me, Timmy.'

Chapter 46 Kid Brother
Timothy's face was flushed scarlet 'Don't call me little brother! Our birthdays are
just two months apart.'
'Which makes you sixty days younger than me, Timmy boy'
Darya was the youngest in the McAllister family.
Most of her friends-Bianca, Harley, Winfred-were older than her as well.
She rather enjoyed having a kid brother like Timothy.
'But I don't want you to see me as a brother,' Timothy mumbled.
Hands on the wheel, Timmy dear.' Darya smiled.
She stretched and stifled a yawn. 'I barely had anything to eat just now. How
about dinner? My treat.'
'Sure.' Timothy perked up straight away,
He had just been turned down by Darya.
But it was okay.
He had patience.
With time, he would prove that he was serious about her.
Darya admired the beautiful interior of the Jaguar F-type. 'New car?'
'Yep. Got it last month.' Timothy was proud of his car collections. 'You can borrow it any time you want.'
Thinking of another opportunity to spend time with her, he offered, 'There's a
street race next week, organised by a bunch of my friends. I was going to pass. But you haven't been to one in a while. Wanna go?'
"Thanks, but I'm more interested in something else right now,'
'What?'
'Making money."
'Huh?' Timothy turned to look at Darya. 'Are you serious? But your family already
has enough money to buy a couple of small nations. Why would you...?'
'Like you said, it's my family's money, not mine."
'What's the difference?' Timothy shrugged. 'We all know your father has appointed you the heiress for almost
all of his assets.'
'But that's inherited money. I want to make my own money.'
She'd wasted enough time chasing after a man who turned out to be nothing but an illusion.
It was time to get back to what she really loved.
'Think about it,' she said. 'If you have your own money, you can do with it whatever you like.'
'I kind of already do.' Timothy smiled.
'Do you?' Darya pointed at the electronic dashboard. 'Who bought you the
Jaguar?'

'I did. Well, I used my old man's credit card, but still..."
'I know you like cars. Don't you want to be able to buy whatever cars you like?'
Darya knew her friend was more interested in having fun than doing work, but it was a pity to let his intelligence go to waste.
Besides, he couldn't mooch off his parents forever.
'I once saw a 1955 Jaguar D-Type at an auction,' she said, setting the bait. 'It
won the 1956 twenty-four-hour Le
Mans race.'
'I know that car! Timothy's eyes lit up. 'It's an absolute beauty.'
'I agree. The smooth slopes, the slick edges, the mesmerising blue colour... Don't
you want to get your hands
on a car like that?'
Timothy's face fell. 'My old man's never going to fork out twenty million bucks for a
car.'noveldrama
'But you can do it if it's your own money.' Darya tapped on her phone and turned the screen to him. 'How about this one? The Rolls-Royce Boat Tail. Custom-built, 6.75-litre V12 engine, hand-painted blue bonnet. The two compartments in the rea open like butterfly wings. They even stock a bespoke champagne chest- 'Stop it!' Timothy protested. 'Put the phone away before I start drooling.' After a while, he said, 'Sent the pics to me.'
Darya smiled. 'Done. This beauty comes with a price tag of twenty-eight million dollars, by the way.'
Timothy puffed out his cheeks. 'Stop teasing me.'
'Imagine if you have your own business.' Darya painted a picture for him. 'Like your brother Winfred. Or like our Harley who owns a fashion house. If you do a good job, you can afford to buy all the Rolls-Royce Boat Tails
you want.'
Timothy mulled it over. 'But what shall I do? The old man's grooming Winnie to take over the family business. I don't want to go up against him.'
'You can set up your own shop.'
'Doing what?'
'What are you good at?'
'Hmm. Distinguish the different grades of caviar by their taste and texture. Judge
the quality of wine by their complexity and balance. Measure a race car's performance by its aggression, braking, cornering-'
'Got it.' Darya stopped him before he launched into a monologue about cars again. 'Maybe you can take some time to think it over. Consult your dad and your
brother. They know you best.'
'Okay.' Timothy nodded.
