Chapter 0086
"Go ahead, call the cops," Tobias barked, moving out of Celestine's hold and walking towards Amara. He noticed the red marking his finger had left on her cheek, but his thoughts were too consumed with anger for him to care, to feel any sort of remorse. "And while you're at it, be sure to tell them about all the despicable things you've done to Celestine."
"Despicable?" A laugh left Amara's lip. "What gave you the right to call me such a name?" Her eyes gravitated in Celestine's direction and she added. "Do you...think-"
"I know you've been playing childish tricks on Celeste. Bullying her, I know-"
"You know nothing!" Amara hissed. The look of anger written across her face had doubled, and her glare could have pierced through anyone's soul.NôvelDrama.Org content rights.
However, the only soul that received her wrath was Tobias's.
"If that little brainwashed brain of yours believes that I've bullied your precious lover, then I dare you, check the security footages and see who started it first!"
Celestine's eyes suddenly doubted in size and she looked like a fish pulled straight out of water.
Shit!
The security cameras, she had forgotten that one crucial detail.
Stiffening, Celestine panicked internally. In seconds, her mind replayed several situations, the worst of them being the one in which Tobias watched the CCTV footage and realize she was in the wrong.
Sure, he won't come to hate her, but the aftermath of watching that video was sure to put a dent in how Tobias looked at her.
The thought made Celestine nervous. She couldn't stand to lose any single point with Tobias, not after all she had done.
"Ahh!" In a spur of the moment decision, Celestine cried out and crumbled to the floor, holding onto the knee she had bruised when falling, but never paid attention to until now.
The sound drew the attention of all three individuals in the room and Tobias was the first to act.
"Celeste," He rushed to her, getting on his knees and examining her with such delicacy that could have only been reserved for the most precious being in the world.
He didn't care about the fact that his pants would be dirtied, his attention was solely on Celestine.
The sight caused Amara's stomach to crunch no matter how much she tried to not let it affect her.
And the ache,
She looked away and blinked angry tears back.
That damn ache in her chest needed to go. She didn't need it. Not here. Not now.
"What's wrong?" Tobias asked, holding Celestine in his arms and giving her his undivided attention. "Where does it hurt?"
Celestine pointed at her bruised knee and Tobias wasted no time in examining it. He clicked his tongue in distaste and even though the wound wasn't much, decided that she needed medical attention.
"I'll take you to the hospital, let's go." He stood up and offered his hand.
Celestine took it, but nearly crumbled to the floor when she attempted to stand.
"I'm sorry Toby, my legs-"
Tobias swept her off the floor before she could finish speaking. "It's okay. You're alright." He mused.
Celestine couldn't help but smile softly. Although Tobias had confessed his love to her several times, that was only in the past before his marriage with Amara, and as of late, he had seemed distant, as if not really giving her his full attention and Celestine couldn't help but think that he no longer loved her.
But seeing this now, the way he cared for her, the way he was attentive, the way he loved her, made her heart swell.
Her temporary moment of bliss was broken by the sound of Amara's voice. "So now you're just going to leave without apologizing?"
"Only someone who has been wronged deserves an apology, Amara." Tobias sneered. "Someone like you should be the one kneeling and apologizing. A vain woman like you doesn't deserve an apology, talk less love."
The look of fury on Amara's face
melted away without a second
thought and she just stared, silently, because no matter how much she
wanted to deny it, one fact was true.
Even after all these while, hearing something like that from Tobias...hurt like hell.
Amara's silence was the perfect queue for Tobias to leave and he did so without an inch of hesitation.
As the door closed after his departure, Amara blinked furiously, trying to chase away the tears.
She had no idea what they were for, if it was the pain Tobias's words had inflicted or the pain his actions had. Perhaps, it was both.
"Mara," Melanie, who had watched everything quietly, finally spoke. "Are you okay?"
No, no, she wasn't.
The pain was there, in her chest, and no matter how many times she told herself that she didn't care, she did.
The silence was worrying and Melanie took a step closer. "Mara-"
"I'm fine." The lie left her lips so effortlessly, that Melanie would have believed her, if not for the tear that rolled down her cheek.
"I'm fine," Amara repeated, wiping the tear and putting a forced smile on. "Gosh, they totally ruined our shopping trip."
"Mara," Melanie tried comforting her friend once again, but Amara shrank back in seconds.
She glanced at her watch and sighed loudly. "Fuck, I'm late." Saying this, she gathered the dress she had purchased and headed for the door. "You can't possibly go to work like that." Melanie objected, standing in front of the door before she could exit it. "I won't let you."
"Melanie," Amara looked the older
female in the eyes. Her blue eyesz
were soft, glistening with tears, yet strong and unwavering. "I'm fine. Please move out of the way.
O.UMS
There was nothing more that needed to be said. Amara wanted to be left alone and Melanie understood that.
Stepping out of the way, she tried her luck one last time. "Should I drive you home?"
Amar silently shook her head as she walked out and Melanie shouted. "Call me."
"Yeah." Was the only reply she got as Amara walked to the front desk, settled her tab and walked out.
She walked listlessly towards her car, replaying Tobias's words in her mind and cursing her damn heart for reacting.
Why did she have to be born so damn weak?
She was so engrossed in her
thoughts throughout the drive home,
that she didn't notice the car trailing behind her. Only did she notice something was wrong when she arrived at her house and instead of the gate to open like it normally did, it remained shut, the sensors unresponsive to her arrival.
Amara frowned and pulled up a bit. Perhaps, she was not close enough for the sensor to register her arrival.
That had to be it. She drove forward once more, but still the same thing happened.
This time, she pressed the remote twice and the lights on the sensor went green.
But still the gate didn't open.
"What the hell?" Amara parked her car and got off, heading for the sensor. She examined it and realized the wires were cut.
Her eyes narrowed.
That...wasn't right.
She reached for her phone to call the cops, but it was knocked out of her hand and in an instance, she felt her entire body tackled to the floor.
