Chapter 993
The group was thunderstruck by Thaddeus's sudden burst of insight!
"Thaddeus might be onto something. Evadne could very well be on this island called 'ROSE'!"
Elsie's eyes sparkled with fierce hope, confirming, "I once overheard Harvey mention that Avery had bought an island he was particularly fond of, where he often went to unwind.
I didn't pay much mind to it then, considering Avery's vast holdings, one island seemed insignificant. But now, it's all starting to make sense. If it were just any island, why would he care so much to check on it in person so often? That's not his style. He must have been planning this for a while, that island must be his final hideout!"
Others might have been skeptical of such a claim.
But Elsie, once a confidant of Avery, was unlikely to be wrong in her deductions!
"Let's head out now. I'll pilot the chopper myself and land on the island!"
Thaddeus's heart raced like tempestuous waves, his chest heaving with each tumultuous beat.noveldrama
His eyes reddened as he holstered his gun, grabbed his phone and gear, ready to leave, only to be blocked at the door by Aaron and Bennett.
"No way, it's too dangerous!"
Bennett spread his arms in front of him, "A hurricane's hit the coast of Helgen City, starting tonight and lasting three days. Ports and flights are all shut down!
Flying out now in a chopper is a suicide mission!"
Thaddeus's eyes were bloodshot, showing no signs of backing down:
"Then we'll sail, head out to sea!"
Aaron cursed out of desperation, "That's the same damn thing! Don't make it so we can't find Evadne, and then lose you too!
We get you're anxious, but cool it! So much time has passed, if something had happened to Evadne, it would've already happened. What's three more days gonna change?! But if you go now, there's a 99% chance you won't make it back! We can't afford to lose anyone else!"
As Aaron's voice trembled to a halt, his eyes welled up with tears.
"99%, but what about that 1%?"
Thaddeus struggled to contain his emotions, his voice raw with agony, "As long as there's a sliver of hope, even if it means risking it all, I have to try!"
There was no reasoning with him, a man on the edge, especially with the only person who could calm him not by his side.
Cassius looked on anxiously, "Thaddeus, please, just wait a bit longer."
"Wait? It's been nearly half a month, and now that we finally have a lead on Evadne, you want me to wait?!"
Thaddeus's broad shoulders shook as he roared, "What if Avery, in a fit of madness, harms Evadne during these three days? What if he gets wind and moves her?
The world is vast, where do you expect me to start looking?!"
Everyone fell silent.
Didn't they understand his reasoning?
But faced with the forces of nature, humans are indeed frail, unable to contend. "I'm with you."
Elvis stepped forward, his gaze unwaveringly fixed on Thaddeus's pale face, a slight smile playing on his lips, "We're old mates, aren't we? If not now, when? I'm in!"
Thaddeus's eyes brimmed with tears, "Elvis..."
Elsie watched the steadfast figure of the man, her eyes shimmering with tears.
Yes, there was excitement, admiration, love...
And deep, profound worry.
After all, she too had lived in Helgen for many years, and the hurricanes over Helgen's seas were no joke. One wrong move, and you could be lost to the sea!
"Damn it... then what are we waiting for? I'm a cop, supposed to face danger head-on. Count me in!" Aaron stepped forward, thumping his chest.
But with the younger brother acting recklessly, the elder couldn't afford to indulge. Both the eldest brother and Bennett Waverley still vehemently opposed the idea of setting sail tonight.
"Thaddeus, Elvis."
Darcy approached with a grave expression, trying to reason with them, "If you must go, we know we can't stop you.
I've spoken with the meteorological department. Around 2 AM, there will be a two- hour window during the eye of the storm when the weather will improve, and the sea will calm. If you're set on this, set sail then.
It will take about four hours to reach the island called ROSE by boat. Flying would be too risky, and landing might tip off Avery if he's watching. We don't know what kind of firepower he might have.
I advise against anyone else going. With only a two-hour window, any unforeseen change in weather could trap a larger group at sea, leaving us in a tough spot."
What do you think?
