Chapter 1000
The impact of that face on the two men was like a storm surge, shaking the very foundations of their reality, indescribable in its intensity!
Especially Elvis, who couldn't believe his eyes, his pupils quivering with emotion as he cried out:
"Jack?! Jack, is that you?!"noveldrama
Hans merely stared back, his expression as calm and undisturbed as a still pond.
"Elvis, get a grip, man! Look closer!"
Thaddeus, too, was shocked to his core!
But he had never actually met the living Jack Hamilton; he had only seen the handsome pilot in the Hamilton family's portraits. So, he quickly steadied his emotions, his jaw clenched tight:
"Wasn't Jack declared dead after that plane crash? After all these years without even finding his body, how could he possibly still be alive?!
This guy, he might just be a lookalike, a distraction Avery's throwing our way! Elvis, snap out of it, don't let your eyes deceive you!"
Hearing this, Hans couldn't help but frown deeply.
Another one, no, two more.
This Jack fellow sure had a lot of folks thinking about him, missing him, even years after his supposed death.
Truth be told, after his spat with Evadne, Hans had gone back and looked up this Jack Hamilton on his phone.
For the first time in his memory, he felt an unprecedented curiosity about another person.
Seeing Jack in his crisp pilot uniform, handsome and beaming in the photos, stirred something unexplainable in Hans.
It felt like this man was both a stranger and yet, somehow, not so distant.
But how could that be?
He was Hans, an orphan with no parents, a loyal hitman always by the Boss's side.
Aside from their faces, he and Jack had nothing in common.
In this vast world, similar-looking folks were dime a dozen, weren't they? "Thaddeus, we brothers grew up together, Jack was the brother I was closest to!" Elvis stared fixedly at the man before him, his emotions almost bursting through, "No one knows Jack better than I do. That's him! There's no mistake!"
"I'm not."
Hans looked at them, his voice distant and cold, "I'm not the man you're talking about.
But hey, if dying in front of your 'kin' leaves you with no regrets, then so be it."
As his words fell, he moved like a shadow, charging at Elvis with the ferocity of a wild animal!
"Elvis, watch out!"
Sweat beaded on Thaddeus's
forehead, his eyes as sharp as an
eagle's, as he drew his gun and
aimed at the swiftly moving Hans, his finger ready on the trigger!
Back in military school, his shooting was top-notch, and his dynamic vision unparalleled.
Even with Hans's lightning speed, he was confident he could take him down! "Thaddeus! Don't shoot!"
Elvis's cry cut through the tension, sensing the imminent danger, a flash of cold steel narrowly missing him!
Thanks to his exceptional reflexes, he dodged just in time; otherwise, that blade would have surely blinded him!
"Elvis!" Thaddeus's eyes widened in shock!
How could this man be Jack?!
His moves were ruthless, his killing intent cold and merciless. How could this heartless assassin be Jack?!
Hans had unleashed almost all of his speed in that strike, yet Elvis had managed to dodge easily, surprising him.
A smirk played on Hans's lips, a spark of excitement at meeting his match flickering in his eyes, as he swung his deadly knife again, this time aiming for Elvis's neck!
"Thaddeus! Go now!"
With agile movements, Elvis once again dodged, shouting to
Thaddeus, "He's just trying to słow us down, to buy Avery time to move Evadne off this island!
Thaddeus, I'll hold him off, you go save Evadne!"
As he spoke, he narrowly avoided another strike!
This man, resembling Jack so closely, was a deadly assassin. Throughout his years in the field, Elvis had encountered a few of such formidable opponents.
They were killing machines, each strike aimed to kill, reveling in the efficiency and thrill of bloodshed, without any unnecessary flair.
Just one deadly move after another!
But, Elvis could sense that although this man's attacks were lethal, he was still pulling his punches, not truly out to kill him at all costs.
And if he really wanted to kill, why bother with a knife?
This island was their domain; a machine gun would have sufficed for a clean sweep, no need for close combat!
Thaddeus, with tears in his eyes, finally made a decision:
"Elvis, the others are on their way, hang in there!"
As Elvis dodged another attack, he even managed to flash Thaddeus an "OK" sign.
Clearly, he was holding his ground.
With his heart returning to its place, Thaddeus turned on his heels and sprinted towards the villa, as fast as lightning.
What do you think?
