Her Savior

Chapter 20 Check Up

“Hey, you’re awake already? How are you feeling?”

Ian woke up the next day only to find the bed empty, last night he had said the word, and he had felt nothing but acceptance from her side. Somehow he knows that she was feeling the same, but didn’t want to burden her with everything that was going on in her life already.

“Morning… coffee?” she asked him but getting the pot and poured him a black one already and set it beside hers for him.

Then she was back to making their pancake breakfast, last time she remembered that he liked them, so she wakes up early that day and tries to make him breakfast in bed. This text is property of Nô/velD/rama.Org.

But she fails to realize that he was a morning person, with his job he was always an early riser. She was trying to thank him for all that he had done for her, then obviously for his confession last night. Him saying that he loves her was the sweetest, and he was saying it as if he couldn’t contain himself by blurting out the words in their most intimate moment.

“I asked how are you feeling baby?” he whispered behind her as she was plating the pancakes.

“I’m good, nervous… but good.”

“Why? are you still taking your pain meds? I’m thinking of taking you to Max’s clinic on my way to the office.”

He turned her to face him, cupped her face, and give her his sweet kisses that she likes.

“Yes, Rebecca had taken a look at them and adjusted the dosage for me yesterday. But I’m nervous about my case, my mother, us… I want to get it done sooner than later.”

“Do you want to do it today? I mean we can do it after we went to the clinic? This is a big decision, Blair…”

“Today.” She said firmly while looking straight at him.

“You will go straight into questionings, I will try my best to talk to my captain with all the evidence that we have, I will ask Max to have his lawyer present. But baby, there’s one more thing you need to know about Max.”

He seated her in front of him and held her hand in his.

“He’s dangerous isn’t he?”

“Yes, but he has connections that can prevent you from being locked in a cell. Look, even with all the evidence that we have, I alone can not keep you away from being locked up. I am the system…”

For the next hour, Ian and Blair discussed everything, until they finally settled on contacting Max and heading on to his clinic. From there they would go straight to Ian’s precinct where he had made an appointment with his captain.

“I’m with you Blair, I’ll do my best to keep you safe.”

“I know, I couldn’t ask for more Ian. You’ve helped me so much than I could ever…” she was teary again, her life was on the edge now. She was scared shitless but knew that she needs to do this, she tried to be on the run but that life was not for her. Ian was quick to hug and calm her down.

They were on their way back to the city after they finished their breakfast and have a quick change. Ian packed everything, telling her that he wanted her back in his house. She just nodded, still convinced that she’d be locked up though they say otherwise. She was leaving everything to Ian and Max.

Her face was stoic as she looked out the sparse traffic in front of her, he would look at her while her mind seemed to be elsewhere. Then his phone buzzed with her name on it. He cursed knowing he had to answer it cause it might be work-related.

“Taylor here, you’re on speaker I’m on my way to the office I’ll be there in a couple of hours.”

“Hey, I know we’re partners now and keeping things professional…”

Blair looked at Ian trying to conclude what the woman was trying to say but the sudden jealousy was creeping up behind her.

“Garcia, I’m with my girlfriend. We will talk when I arrived at the office.”

“Oh… right, okay I’ll see you later.”

He ended the call moments later, and then there was silence. Blair was still looking out the window, wanting to ask why the woman wanted to keep things professional?

Meanwhile, Ian was trying to think of a way to explain his casual sexual partner but then decided just to give her the facts.

“Garcia and I, we used to have sex, casually. I don’t date, don’t have time. I had ended it.”

“Right.” She answered quickly, not knowing what people usually say in this situation. She had never been jealous before, and it stings, and she hated the feeling.

But then he took her hand and kissed her knuckles lovingly.

Her feelings were still a roller coaster when they arrived at Max’s clinic. Rebecca was there to greet her, while Max and Luka were nowhere to be seen. She did her standard check-up on Blair, then she changed her cast after a quick x-ray.

“You’re healing nicely Blair, better than expected. Let’s finish changing this cast then I think by the next month we could change it into a splint.” Blair just smiled and nodded at her, while she kept looking at Ian who was busy calling on his phone. The ache was back and she didn’t like it.

“He’s a nice catch Blair, and he seemed smitten by you,” Rebecca said as she saw Blair keeping her eyes on Ian.

“I don’t think I’m good for him.”

There she finally said it, she was feeling the lack of self-confidence in their relationship. She knows she wanted him, she had wished that he would like her the same. But when he said that he loves her, reality kicks in, and she was feeling the uncertainty.

How could I do this to him? He has his whole future in front of him. His job, his family…

She kept on thinking how selfish she had been, while Rebecca looks at her and shook her head in disapproval.

“Blair, you’re a good woman, beautiful and strong, it’s time that you have your happiness… maybe his your good karma.”

Both women were silent when Ian was back to Blair’s side and kissed her temple. Rebecca had just finished with her cast

“I just talked to Max’s lawyer, he’s going to meet us at the station. So, are you ready for this?” he asked rubbing her shoulder looking straight into her eyes.

She had never been treated this nicely before, she had never had this many people supporting her. And it was overwhelming her to the point that she was teary again.

“Hey, it’s okay baby… we could go back to the cabin and wait until you’re ready. I’ll think of something…”

“No… no I’m ready…” she shook her head and wiped away her tears roughly.

Rebecca was giving them some privacy as she excused herself saying that she was getting her prescription ready.

“Blair baby, look at me…”

Her vision was blurry again, but he pulled her into his arms and hugged her for the longest time. She was taking in his warmth, his loving feeling, then she bravely pulled his face down and kissed him. He sighed and kissed her back and finally released her when she peeled herself away from him.

“I’m ready. Let’s do this.”
