Chapter 1295
With a guy as mesmerizing as him by her side, anyone else might have felt a bit jittery, but Flora was as cool as a cucumber. After devouring two big bowls of pasta, she even managed to squeeze in a slice of strawberry cheesecake. "Miss Flora, we'll get these dishes out of your way. You go ahead and carry on," Jonathan said, standing by with unwavering respect as he waited for her to finish before signaling the staff to clear the table.novelbin
"Sure thing," Flora nodded, feeling a tad overstuffed, and gave her stomach a gentle rub.
The moment Jonathan left with his usual courtesy, Corbyn couldn't hold back any longer and blurted out, "Flora, what's the story between you and Jonathan?"
He'd never seen anyone be so chummy with Jonathan before!
The others leaned in, clearly intrigued.
Flora flashed a bright smile, "My relationship with him... What do you think?"
"Is Jonathan sweet on you? Is he trying to win you over?" Corbyn asked, his curiosity getting the better of him.
Otherwise, why would he go out of his way to bring Flora food?
It baffled him even more how Jonathan seemed to treat Flora with a hint of reverence, which didn't quite fit the mold of someone smitten.
He didn't dare to link Flora with Connor, since everyone knew Connor was already engaged and doted on his fiancée.
"Trying to woo me?" Flora arched an eyebrow, "He'd be in a world of trouble if he did."
"Uh..."
Meanwhile, as Jonathan led his crew out, they were barely out of the Medical Hall when someone called out to him. "Jonathan!"
Tara hurried up to him.
"Miss Roth," Jonathan acknowledged, his tone politely detached.
Tara felt a pang and bit her lip, "Jonathan, did I do something to upset you?"
Why else would he be giving her the cold shoulder?
The last time she tagged along with Sydney to the Enforcement Division, Jonathan had been all friendly and respectful.
As the Roth family's eldest daughter,
a woman of high status and a brilliant pharmacist, she'd walked the halls of the Enforcement Division many times. Her relationship with Jonathan and the others wasn't exactly tight-knit, but they were on speaking terms. But now.
Jonathan's aloofness was mainly because Connor had him dig into Tara's background. He recognized Flora as the lady of the house and knew Tara had an interest in Connor, so he kept her at arm's length.
"Miss Roth, you haven't offended me," Jonathan replied, still distant.
"Then why..." Tara bit her lip, "Did Mr. Stonnell say something? Or did someone else tell you to steer clear of me?"
Tara only knew Connor's last name, Stonnell, and not his first name.
Her last remark almost outright accused Flora of keeping them apart.
Hearing this, Jonathan frowned,
"Miss Roth, no one's said anything to me. We weren't really close to begin with. Besides, my boss is engaged It'd be best if Miss Roth could put aside any notions. With your status and talents, finding a suitable
husband should be no trouble at all."
He had a certain admiration for Tara, which is why he was so upfront. With anyone else, he wouldn't have bothered.
Listening to his blunt, icy words, Tara's face went pale, "Did... did your boss ask you to say this to me?"
Jonathan, ever the straightforward type, replied coldly, "No, Miss Roth, you're overthinking it. My boss barely remembers who you are."
