Fated is overrated

Chapter 189

Nadia POV Finally, I see my brother entering the hall. The main reason Lola and I came here today was out of respect to Alpha Culio, as he has always been a good Alpha.

Lola also came here on official business as the Lycan Queen and although she would not admit it, I believe there is a personal touch to it as well for her. I know she and Chris were best friends as children, but I don't think that is the reason she wants to attend today. She seems really serious for a social call.

For me, though, I also came to see my parents and brother, of course. We have drifted apart ever since he started seeing Melissa, and even more so after I moved to the dragon kingdom. We used to be best friends, together with Lola, and it breaks my heart thinking back to those days when all was good.Têxt © NôvelDrama.Org.

Coming back here sure reinforces the feeling. Speaking of the devil, or should I say develin (is that a word?), I don't see Melissa by his side. Oddly enough, my brother doesn't even seem to notice me, although he is staring right at me. I hear a small gasp next to me, and I turn my head to see what is going on.

Iris, Damon and Lola's cousin, is taking in sharp breaths, as her eyes are glued ahead. Her eyes darken and I turn my head to follow her line of sight, only to see she is staring at my brother. Suddenly, it clicks in my mind. Jason isn't staring right at me, he is staring right at Iris.

"Mate" I hear Iris breathe out, before she takes a few hesitant steps towards Jason. She comes to a halt when the most annoying voice on this planet yells "*SSHOLE! YOU LEFT ME!", as the annoying person attached to the voice comes barging through the open doors. My brother doesn't even respond to her, though. In fact, he doesn't even seem to register her presence. He seems to be in some sort of trance. Just when he is finally moving towards Iris, he is pulled back by his arm roughly, while Melissa yells "DID YOU EVEN HEAR ME, YOU PIECE OF SH*T?!".

Jason tries to pry his arm free, but to no avail, as the wench clings onto it for dear life. I hear Lola sigh next to me (don't ask me how I know it is her sighing, somehow I always do), right before a gust of wind lands Melissa on her *ss. I have seen her use her powers a million times by now, but somehow I can never get used to it. Jason rushes over towards Iris, as we hear him breathe out the word "mate" in awe.

I can't stop tears from springing to my eyes. I know my brother was nowhere near happy with Melissa, and Iris is a wonderful woman. And not to mention, if they accept each other and my brother decides to move to the dragon kingdom, we will be closer to one another again. Jason POV

I can't believe I have found my fated mate. This breathtakingly gorgeous woman is my mate! 'Say something you fool!' Jay urges me, and I feel my neck heating up thinking she must think I am a complete fool for just staring at her. "H-hi" I manage to squeeze out, and I can practically hear the eyeroll from Jay.

"Hi" she breathes out, and before I can even think of what to say, she continues "what's your name?". "Jason" I smile at her "what's yours?". "Iris" she smiles warmly, and I melt like a puddle of ice. "Which pack are you from?" I ask, eager to get to know my mate. Her smile falters for a second, before she recomposes herself and answers cautiously "from the dragon kingdom..". My eyebrows furrow involuntarily. Why would she be in the dragon kingdom? Has she taken a dragon as her chosen mate already?! My smile drops, as does hers.

'She is a dragon, dumdum. Can't you smell she's not a wolf?' Jay chides me, and it isn't until now that I notice she does smell different from us wolves. I can see hurt in her eyes, which leaves me wondering as to why.

'Because she thinks you don't want her, you fool! Fix this!' what? Why wouldn't I want her? She tries to turn to move away from me, but I manage to grab a hold of her hand and turn her back towards me. I pull her into a tight hug in 1 swift motion. "I'm so sorry. I... I didn't realize what you were. I.. thought you were there because you took a dragon as a chosen mate. I'm so sorry, please forgive me". Her hands wrap around my waist, and she plants a soft kiss on my cheek.

** 2 years later **

Life couldn't have been any better. I have the woman of my dreams, and she has given me 2 beautiful boys. I can definitely tell now why it never worked with anyone else, this woman was made for me.

I moved to the dragon kingdom after Iris and I marked each other. It was a bit estranged between Lola and I initially, but she has let go of the past, and we are good friends again now.

As good as her mates will let us be, that is. They know I have no romantic interest in Lola anymore, but they are quite protective of her. Which continues to astound me, considering all the power she possesses. I have also enjoyed being closer to my sister. And of course, being closer to my niece.

She is the absolute best little girl and gets along great with our boys. Lola's little firecrackers together with mine and my niece are inseparable. They get into trouble more often than we would like, leaving Iris, Nadia and Lola to pick up the pieces again. But, we love them endlessly. Life is good, at last!
