Chapter 36
Xavier chuckled. "It's too late for regrets. The hospital's Wi-Fi is pretty good, full signal even!"
He became busy with his games while Natasha took out her phone to find that the 700 dollars she had transferred to Zachary had been fully refunded to her.
She texted Zachary, "Why aren't you accepting my money, Mr. Foster? Is it not enough? Send me the receipt, and I'll transfer the full amount to you."
She waited for a while but did not get any response from him. She let out a sigh and gave up on the matter.
Xavier put down his phone, curious about what could have happened to push Natasha into such a state. "What's wrong? I've never seen you sigh like that even when we got stuck in experiments back at school."
"Just continue playing your games!"
Natasha logged into her social media account and saw the very last thing she wanted to see a group photo.
Nicole had taken a photo with Matthew and Hayden, but it was clear that Molly had taken the photo for them.
The photo of the three of them standing together really did resemble that of a family photo.
What puzzled Natasha in particular was Molly herself. She wondered how Molly could be so gullible as to be fooled by Nicole of all people.
The viral article from earlier had also not died down yet.
She scrolled further and saw that Jack, who was known for rarely posting any updates, had posted a new photo. She tapped on it and studied it carefully. "Why does this background look so familiar?"
Xavier looked at the photo and recognized it as the hospital lobby he had passed through just now.
"He's at this hospital too?" Natasha asked with a frown.
It was the first time he had seen her worry about a guy. Curious, he asked, "What? Is he your boyfriend? Or is he someone you have a crush on?"
Natasha then sent multiple messages to Jack. She did not expect him to give her a reply, but she hoped that he could at least notice her concern for him.
Xavier hesitated for a while before putting down his phone. There was something he had wanted to tell her for some time. "There's something that I'm not quite sure if I should be telling you or not. But considering how close you are to Mr. Foster, I think I must tell you about it."
"What, don't tell me you used to be friends with him?" she asked jokingly.noveldrama
When she was dating Matthew, she had barely seen Zachary, let alone heard any gossip about him.
"It doesn't matter how I know about this, but Mr. Foster used to change girlfriends almost every other week. You'd better be careful if he's trying to get close to you," Xavier replied.
What he said was so unexpected that Natasha just froze up on the spot. "You're saying that Mr. Foster is a playboy?"
Xavier nodded with a serious expression. He would not have made such a claim if he was unsure about it.
If it had been just a misunderstanding on his own part, he would have gotten into their way by mistake.
Natasha knew well about her own position in life. "Relax, someone like Mr. Foster couldn't possibly be interested in a broke nobody like me."
Xavier leaned in closer with a mysterious look. "Who knows? Maybe it'll be like the plot of those novels-"
Natasha slapped him square on the face before he could finish. "Those are just fairytales. Do you think CEOs just grow on trees or something? Besides, I'm no princess or heroine of such stories either."
She was utterly done with Xavier. She curled up under the blanket to try and get some sleep.
"Just keep an eye out on him. Don't get any closer if you feel that something's wrong."
While Xavier offered earnest advice, Natasha was already fast asleep on the bed.
She slept until noon the next day. Though Xavier was already long gone by then, he had thoughtfully bought her breakfast.
Seeing that there was nothing wrong with her body anymore, Natasha decided to handle her discharge paperwork by herself.
What do you think?
