Chapter 40.
The day ran so fast, but Vanessa was able to make it in sales. She had covered the other days she wasn’t present for business.
Her patrons were so worried about her whereabouts. They had all commented of not seeing her in the bakery while it’s wide open.
She didn’t let anyone know what’s going on, the least she could was to cover up everything, telling them she got an urgent call that made her leave instantly.
Nessa wasn’t lazy to bake as many cakes and other bakeries as she could, she made sure to distribute them to the various malls and shops she was called for.
Before evening, she had more than she had expected for the day, and it really gladdened her.
After the sun had set, she decided to close for the day being so sure that Chloe might be waiting for her.
She cleaned up her oven since there wasn’t any cake in it.
When she was done, she locked up the door and was about to leave, when she heard her name being called out by a masculine.
Her neck swirled backwards in search of the person calling her out, but she didn’t find anyone.
She felt scared. All she wishes is that it’s a safe voice.
Again, she heard her name more loudly and repeated this time.
“Who’s that?” She asked in a low tune. Her eyes widened while glancing around.
She felt an arm around her waist. But couldn’t get it off while struggling to.
“It’s me, Jasper Turner.” The voice stated.
She placed her palm on her heart while trying to recall where she heard the name.
“Uhmmm! Do you know me? Okay, just let me be on my own first.” She uttered feeling a bit relieved.
He let go of her waist. “Take a good look at me, did you recognize this face?”
She narrowed her eyes while recalling the past. Finally, it hit her mind on where she met the face.
“You stopped me yesterday right?” She asked him.Original content from NôvelDrama.Org.
He nodded facing her. “I did, and I’m still Jasper Turner. The only man that disturbs a lady like you.”
She chuckled wondering what he’s up to. “So what can I do for you?” She asked, stepping forward.
He gripped her palm taking her towards his car, she gently followed him.
She leaned on the car forcing her to do so. “I’m in a haste, just let me know the reason you stopped me.”
He licked his lips, staring at her. “First, what’s your name? You didn’t tell me.”
“I’m Vanessa.” She stated. “Now you’ll speak up right?”
He breathed heavily. “I have interest in you Vanessa. Can we go on a date during the weekend?”
She lifted her face and glanced at him. “I don’t really get what you mean?”
He turned towards her totally. “I’m very serious Vanessa, I love you so much and would love to go on a date with you.”
She turned speechless instantly, staring at the huge dude that’s kind of wealthy asking her on a date.
“I’m so sorry Jasper, but I’m rejecting that offer. You can look for some other women that can give you such time.” She remarked.
He held her in order not to let her go. “Why are you speaking this way? I’m not good looking enough to stay with you?” She swallowed. “Look Vanessa, I had loved you from the first day I set my eyes on you. I promise to give you all you want from me.”
“This is a matter of love please. Do you even know what it means to go on a date with someone? Jasper, I am not interested at all. I’m a very busy person and won’t give time to that.” She insisted on turning down his request.
Jasper felt shattered, this isn’t what he had expected from her.
All through his life, Vanessa is the first woman to turn down his request… meanwhile, other ladies force themselves on him which he desires a lot.
He had turned himself to a womanizer because of that, to find them, use and delete… that’s what he’s up to.
But it’s different this time… Vanessa had stolen his heart for sure and nothing can change that. If only she would be able to view his heart, she would be very sure that he isn’t teasing her.
“Vanessa, don’t do this to me. I love you so damn much and I promise not to stop doing that.” He uttered again.
She looked off. “You’re wasting my time here. I’ve told you the fact, I don’t love you and am not ready to go on a date with you. Just let me go.”
He shook his head. “I’m sorry but I won’t let you go, only if you accede to my request, then I have a rest of mind and let you go.”
Vanessa felt baffled, the time is running so fast and she needs to leave in order to go meet Chloe.
But then, she isn’t interested in the dude despite the fact she isn’t in any relationship.
“Jasper, why not keep this discussion for next time. I can’t just give you a reply now, besides I’m in a hurry and you stopped me.” She referred to him.
He didn’t say a word, rather his eyes affixed on her.
“Aren’t you saying something to me any longer? I’m so tired of standing here, just let me go.” She uttered after waiting for his response but couldn’t get any.
He sniffed. “I need an assurance. I need to be sure that you’ll have me in mind. Look Vanessa, I don’t ever want to lose you to someone else, or I won’t take it lightly with the person.”
“What if I’m married or in a relationship?” She asked him.
He smiled. “Then that’s different. But you never know anything about it, that means you’re still single.”
Vanessa didn’t say a word again. She is just fed up with his queries.
“Nessa…” he called her out of her thoughts.
She lifted her face, staring at him. “You called me…”
“Yes I did. Now tell me what you’re saying about my request. I’d like to know, but please don’t turn me down.” He pleaded politely.
She stretched her lips and then circled it. “I’ll sleep over it, just come back next time for my response, because my head is blank now and I think straight.”
Jasper nodded. “It’s okay then. Why not go into the car so I’ll drop you off.”
“You don’t need to worry about it, the building I’m leaving is just over here.” She uttered pointing at the building.
He gazed at the building for a while and swallowed deeply. “Is that your home?”
“Nope! I work there as a babysitter.” She replied to him.
He nodded. “It’s alright then, take good care of yourself.”
Vanessa waved him goodbye and left him.
He still leaned on his car watching Nessa until she entered the building.
He narrowed his eyes deep in thought. “Maybe I’m mistaken, but it seems like Xavier’s residence.” He thought, rolling his eyes.
He rolled his eyes and stepped into his car ready to leave. “I don’t think it’s his residence.” He assured himself and drove off instantly.

Chloe laid on her bed busy with her toy when Nessa came in, she stood up running into her arms.
“I’ve been waiting for you.” She uttered.
“And you didn’t mind coming over to the bakery today.” She replied to her.
She got seated on the sofa just to take some rest. Chloe got seated beside her too.
“I slept off, that’s why I couldn’t come. I’m just waking up now, so since it’s already evening, I decided to wait till you come over.” The little girl narrated.
She smiled at her. “It’s nothing to worry about. So how is today’s study?” She caressed her hair.
“I enjoyed it, because you’re back to me.” She replied smiling.
Vanessa got on his feet after they interacted for a while, and then decided to start her work.
Chloe sat watching her as she arranged the room and her clothes too.
“Ma’am Vanessa, when will you teach me how to do all these things you do? I’d like to learn.” She referred to drawing Vanessa’s attention.
She stood erect facing her. “When it’s time, I’ll teach you. But now you need to start arranging your clothes.”
“I think I can do that. You know what, I’ll do it before you come tomorrow and you examine it when you arrive.” Chloe replied.
She nodded and went ahead with the chores.
After she was done, and was sure that Tracy was done preparing their dinner, she decided to go meet her in order to take that of Chloe.
While walking towards the stairs, she heard a voice of someone in agony but making a call.
That voice paused her movement and she decided to trace where it’s coming from.
Finally, she noticed it’s from Ben’s room.
She stood in the corridor listening to all he had been saying through the phone, but wasn’t shocked when she heard him say he’s in love with a girl in his school but doesn’t know how to express it to the girl.
Nessa noticed he was narrating it to a friend of his.
She pushed the door open a little and peeped through it, her eyes caught Ben standing beside the window with his cell phone in his ear.
“Can I be of help to him?” The question bombarded her mind, but she only stretched her lips.
