Chapter 970
A thought flickered through her mind, unraveling the month-long mystery that had been gnawing at her. It was the scent. Something was off with the perfume. Chloe, already piecing the puzzle together in her head, managed to maintain her cool, only showing a brief moment of shock before regaining her composure.noveldrama
"Maddie."
Maddie had stopped by twice before, both times with Grant in tow.
"Is Maddie flying solo this time? Where's my buddy?"
Maddie replied, "Your friend's up on the rooftop waiting for you."
Chloe furrowed her brow, as if Maddie's words didn't quite register.
Maddie cast a casual glance around the room, eventually hovering near the crib. Her long nails gently tapped the baby's soft cheek as she remarked, "You've got it all-cool and open-minded parents, four talented and doting brothers, a husband who adores you like no one else, and now this cute little one. It's enough to make anyone green with envy, to the point of wanting to smash it all to bits."
Chloe sensed an undercurrent of hostility in Maddie's tone. She decided to cut to the chase.
"So, you plotted to make me miscarry, Maddie? How could you be so heartless?"
Maddie twirled around gracefully, her tassels swaying with her movement. Her face, usually marked by a bored expression, was now animated with surprise.
"You figured it out?"
Chloe hadn't been entirely sure, but
Maddie's lack of denial and

"That day in Connor's office, I felt off after catching a whiff of a strange perfume. The placenta abrupted-it was your doing. The perfume had something in it to trigger strong uterine contractions. You wanted me to go into premature labor, or rather, you didn't want this baby born at all."
Even as Chloe spoke, her mind buzzed with questions. Sure, Maddie had a thing for Connor, which could explain her motive. But it didn't quite add up Maddie had been the one to rush her to the hospital and insisted

going to a nearby one instead of the bigger medical center. If they'd gone to the larger center, the baby might not have survived. So, in a way, Maddie's decision saved her baby's life. Didn't that just contradict everything? Or had Maddie suddenly grown a conscience?
Maddie started, "If I didn't want your child born, do you think we'd be having this chat right now?"
Maddie leaned in closer, grabbing Chloe's chin: "Remember, I was the one who saved your kid."
Chloe got the message loud and clear. She locked eyes with Maddie. "So you hurt me and saved me what's the deal with that?"
Maddie released her grip: "I hurt you to save myself. Saving your child was saving me too."
"I don't get it."
"Chloe, you've forgotten too much. It's time to remember."
With that, Maddie pulled a vintage pocket watch from her tasseled bag. "Take a look..."
With a snap of her fingers, a wave of memories crashed over Chloe's mind.
What do you think?
