Chapter 968
He spoke with a chill in his voice, "Amelia, I hope you're not behind any of this trouble, because you know what happens to those who betray me."
Maddie just kept puffing away on her cigarette, casually blowing a smoke ring right in Grant's direction. She seemed totally unfazed.
As the night wore on, most folks had headed home. The room was now just Chloe and Connor, lying side by side on the bed, with their eyes fixed on the tiny baby nestled between them. Their faces were lit up with pure joy and amazement.
"He's just so adorable, isn't he?" Chloe couldn't help but give his tiny hand a gentle squeeze.
Connor was just as captivated, watching the baby intently. "Yeah, look at him, he's moving."
They gazed at him like he was an enchanting little mystery. Happiness was blooming in their hearts.
"Connor, we're officially parents now," Chloe marveled.
Connor nodded, a sense of wonder in his voice. "Yeah, it's incredible."
"Even though it's our first meeting, I'm already head over heels for him," Chloe admitted with a smile.
"This is probably the happiest moment of my life," she added, her eyes sparkling. Connor's gaze softened as he looked at Chloe, filled with affection. He wrapped both Chloe and the baby in a warm embrace. "I'm right there with you."
Despite their overwhelming happiness, Chloe felt a slight tinge of unease beneath the surface, like ripples in calm water.
The next day in the hospital, Chloe was moved to the Joyful Nest Maternity Retreat. Her time there was filled with a steady stream of visitors dropping by to say congratulations.
Leah and Ann were among them, as well as the Moncada family. Belle came too, with her own little one in tow.
A few months earlier, Belle had welcomed a daughter she named Vivienne, a picture-perfect little girl.
Lucas, however, was absent. Tara explained that he'd gone to Japan and was tied up with work, not planning to return just yet. "But he did promise to come back for the christening," Tara assured.
During this period, Connor was all in with parenting duties. Chloe spent her days eating, sleeping, and
occasionally slipping in some
therapy and exercise. Her recool
was swift-she bounced back to her old self in no time, glowing with
vitality.
They also checked her brain aneurysm, which thankfully showed no signs of trouble. Everyone was relieved.noveldrama
But Connor was a different story. The heavy lifting of baby care was visibly wearing him down. Despite having help at the retreat, Connor chose to do it all himself-feeding, diaper changes, baths, bedtime routines. He was determined to learn everything he needed.
Chloe noticed it all. Connor didn't need words to express his love; it was clear in
every action. She could feel how much he cherished their little one.
Though Connor was looking worn out, Chloe soon realized he had a hand in his own exhaustion. More than once, she caught him sneaking out of bed in the middle of the night, cradling the baby in his arms for hours.
The little guy got so used to it that he wouldn't sleep any other way. As a result, Connor never had a full night's rest again.
In just a month, the once polished and reserved CEO had morphed into a slightly scruffy, milk-scented super dad.
