Chapter 335
Egbert in the hallway paused for a moment. Then, with a chuckle, he clapped Carrol on the shoulder, strolled past him, and entered Eileen's room. With a decisive "click", the sound of the door locking severed the inside from the outside.
Carrol was flabbergasted!
Staring at the door, he muttered indignantly, "Pfft! Like having a girlfriend is such a big deal!"
Meanwhile, inside the room.
After setting down her purse, Eileen turned to Egbert, pressing on with the question she had asked in the car, "You said you'd handle Chester's mess. How exactly do you plan to do it?"
Egbert took a seat on the couch, glancing up at her, "You don't need to sweat the details."
Eileen furrowed her brows, but Egbert beckoned her over.
Hesitating, Eileen eventually walked towards him.
As she approached, Egbert grasped her hand, inviting her to sit beside him.
His gaze was intense, but his voice was soft, "Next time something like this happens, you'll tell me, right?"
Eileen blinked, blurting out, "You mean the Chester thing? That was just a minor issue."
Though Chester was a nuisance, ever since she had Gentry investigate, Chester's fate had been in Eileen's hands.
She might say she wouldn't touch Chester, but that didn't mean she couldn't. She might have no sway over the big players backing Chester, but dealing with a small fry like him was well within her means.
Even the big players protecting Chester would weigh the costs. If it meant going up against Nathan Finance, which was thriving in the Capital, Chester might not be worth the risk.Text © owned by NôvelDrama.Org.
But Eileen wasn't too keen on dragging Nathan Finance into this mess. After all, they weren't in showbiz; they were a financial firm, and getting involved in the entertainment industry was not only out of their league but they also lacked the necessary management talent.
Eileen found it all too bothersome, so unless Chester crossed the line, she wouldn't go to extremes and add to her troubles.
Thinking this, Eileen turned back to Egbert, "Is the solution you mentioned related to Whisperwind?"
Whisperwind Media Group was run by her brother Chad Lopez. It was the biggest agency in the industry. Eileen guessed Egbert might want to clue Chad in on the situation.
But honestly, Eileen didn't want Chad meddling in this. This wasn't Echelon Media's battle to fight, and there was no need to drag Chad into it. "No," Egbert said coolly. As he spoke, he let go of Eileen's hand.
She glanced at her hand and then at Egbert.
Seeing he was upset, she laughed softly, poking his cheek, "Upset, are we? Fine then, from now on, no matter what happens, I'll tell you everything, even if I don't need your help. Happy?"
Egbert looked at her, sighed, and said, "I worry about you."
Eileen nodded vigorously, "Yeah, yeah, yeah."
Egbert pinched her nose, "Don't brush me off."
She continued nodding, "Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah."
Egbert laughed in spite of himself, amused by her antics.
He scanned the room, then asked, "So, I'm taking the couch?"
Eileen raised an eyebrow, "You can take the bed, I'll take the couch, or we could... share?"
Egbert hesitated, "Share the bed?"
Eileen got up from the couch and walked towards the bathroom. Just as she was about to close the door, she casually said, "Sure."
With a "click", the door shut behind her, and Egbert stood frozen outside.
Ten minutes later, Eileen emerged from the bathroom in her pajamas, her hair damp.
Egbert, who had been glued to his phone, looked up at the sound of her movement. His eyes followed her every move, unwilling to look away. Eileen climbed into bed, buried herself under the covers without a glance at Egbert, and began scrolling through her phone.
The room fell into a brief silence.
Soon after, Egbert stood up and headed into the bathroom.
The door closed, and the sound of running water filled the space.
As soon as Eileen heard the water, her feigned composure shattered.
She grabbed her phone, opening a site, cramming for what felt like an imminent test!
"Whoa, that's a move!"
"Damn, the flexibility!"
"Seriously? That's a crowd!"
Minutes later, the bathroom door opened.
Eileen, in a knee-jerk reaction, closed the video and pretended to browse a webpage.
The muffled sound of footsteps approached her.
Her throat went dry, but she didn't lift her head until a shadow loomed over her. Eileen clenched her fists, thinking, "Here it comes!"
But then, a gentle tousle of her damp hair took her by surprise.
She didn't move, partly because she was clueless-was tousling hair part of the prelude?
Then the sound of a hairdryer filled the room, warm air brushing against her face.
With a slight stiffness, Eileen looked up to see Egbert, who was drying her hair, a lock of it held in one hand, the hairdryer in the other. Eileen was speechless.
That's it? Her expression unchanged, she met Egbert's gaze.
Frowning slightly, he asked, "Do you normally sleep with wet hair?"
With a twitch of her mouth, Eileen curled up, resting her chin on her crossed arms atop her knees, and said lazily, "I usually dry it."
Without another word, Egbert continued drying her hair until it was completely dry.
Five minutes had passed when Egbert finally set down the hairdryer and strode around to the other side of the bed, climbing in.
Eileen's heart skipped a beat-this was it, the real deal was about to begin!
She took a deep breath, steeling herself with a silent pep talk, “Don't chicken out, Eileen. You can't be outdone!"
This first time was crucial; she was determined to take the top position!

That's right, just like her master had drilled into her in any fight, you've got to strike first. Secure the high ground, establish a strategy that combines offense and defense at lightning speed-only then can you ensure an unbeatable stance!
By now, Egbert had settled into the bed.
Eileen, like a warrior ready for battle, reached out towards him. Her hand trembled slightly, barely moving an inch when Egbert's voice pierced the silence, "Should I turn off the lights?"
IMS
Eileen paused. After a moment's thought, she commanded, "Turn them off!"
She had the advantage in the dark; her night vision was impeccable!
Egbert got out of bed once more to flick off the lights.
The room was plunged into darkness, and Eileen listened intently to Egbert's footsteps...
His steps were deliberate and confident.
Darn it, he must have night vision
too-she had miscalculated! But it didn't matter, she reassured herself. A single oversight wouldn't

Eileen reminded herself to stay cool; maintaining a strong presence was key.
And then, Egbert was back in the bed again.
Guided by his movements, Eileen hesitantly stretched out her hand once more.
This time her hand moved two inches, and suddenly, she could feel the warm heat radiating from him.
He was making his move first! The battle was at a stalemate!
