Chasing Back My Ex-wife

Chapter 22

Chapter 22

Chad got goosebumps and immediately puffed out his chest. "I said, it's been five years since you two have met. You must miss her a lot, mustn't you?" © 2024 Nôv/el/Dram/a.Org.

"What's it got to do with you!" Whenever someone brought this up, Arthur felt triggered.

He should be happy that someone he had longed for for five years wasn't dead, but the woman he missed so much was trying to cut him off every second of the day!

Chad's eyes lit up at Arthur's answer. The couple still stood a chance!

"Arthur, are you so unhappy because Lucy found a new boyfriend?"

"You're not saying anything. Could she possibly have gotten together with another man? And even had a child with him?"

"No? Then is it because Lucy...lost her memory?"

Seeing that Chad was about to keep babbling on, Arthur grabbed a file and slapped it on his mouth. He hissed, "You're so noisy!"

"I'm just concerned about your health!" Chad blinked innocently and tossed the file onto the desk. "Arthur, have you not approached women these five years because that part of you is no longer capable? Do you need me to find you a specialist doctor?"

He was deeply concerned for his buddy!

Thinking about it, Chad himself felt touched by his own concern!

Arthur's head pounded from all the noise Chad was making. Why did he have such a lousy pal? "Mr. Levine, toss him out!"

"Okay." Mr. Levine came over and put Chad across his shoulder effortlessly.

Chad flailed his arms and legs, his eyes filled with sincere worry. "Arthur, you're so pissed off because I guessed correctly, didn't I? You have to get treatment if that part is ailing. People say that when men are lacking in that part, they'll become perverts next time! I know a lot of specialists in that field..."

"Shut him up!" Arthur was trying his best to be patient and not punch Chad in the face.

The door closed and peace finally returned to the office.

He opened a drawer and took out two photos.

The women in the photos looked the same. However, one of them looked elegant and reserved.

Meanwhile, the other looked bright and attention-grabbing.

Arthur's gaze fell on the photos and his eyes dimmed.

Throughout those one thousand and eight hundred nights or more, he had asked himself a question countless times without finding an answer. Did he just treat Lucy as a substitute or had he really fallen in love with her?

The only thing he knew was that he wanted her!

The only thing he knew was that he wanted her!

...

After the issue with the contract had been settled, Lucy was in a good mood for the rest of the day. Even the shadows Arthur had cast upon her had mostly disappeared.

When it was 6 p.m., she drove to the restaurant she and Kylah had agreed on.

Kylah and the little fellow had arrived long ago, and they were sitting in the restaurant opposite a man.

The man was dressed in a white shirt and black tailored pants. He looked warm and attractive, and he was one of those rare handsome dudes who pleased the eye.

"Maddox?!" Lucy couldn't hide her surprise at seeing her school senior. Hadn't he gone overseas for his studies?

"Yup. You don't mind that I came for a free meal without your approval, do you?" Maddox smiled and made space for her beside him.

"She's more than happy!" Kylah ticked a few boxes on the order chit and handed it to the waiter. "When you first left the country, she always rambled to me saying 'Oh dear, I didn't get to say bye to Maddox. Who knows when we'll get to meet again?'"

While saying the last sentence, she imitated Lucy's habit of resting her chin on her hand and speaking in a delicate tone. She looked like a teenager in love.

Upon hearing that, Maddox's brown eyes lit up slightly, and he looked at Lucy attentively.

"Maddox, don't believe her nonsense!" Lucy hit Kylah's plate with her fork while laughing. "Since when did I act so exaggeratedly? Back then, I just felt that it was a pity I didn't get to see you off at the airport."

Maddox smiled a little with laughter in his eyes. "My family arranged everything in a hurry back then. I felt sorry for not saying goodbye to you."

His voice was pleasant to the ears.

Caden blinked while looking at Maddox seriously.

Then, he nudged Kylah and asked in a low voice, "Aunt Kylah, is that man single?"

"Single and ready to mingle." Kylah lowered her head and whispered, "Kiddo, what do you think of him? Does he have the potential to be your dad?"

She had asked Maddox over that day to set them up on a blind date.

Maddox was handsome and cultured, and he also had some feelings for Lucy. He was way better than that idiot!

"What are you two mumbling about?" Lucy chatted with Maddox with a smile, but when she turned

around, she saw Kylah and Caden plotting something.

"I want to eat seafood!" Caden put his hand up and said, "Aunt Kylah said she'll take me."

"I want to eat seafood!" Caden put his hand up and said, "Aunt Kylah said she'll take me."

Kylah cheered secretly. That kid was way too smart. He was her godson for a reason!

"We already ordered food for four people. Now that you suddenly want to eat elsewhere, all that food will go to waste." Kylah always let Caden have his way, while Lucy tried her best to keep him in check so that he wouldn't become a spoiled brat.

Caden slowly put down his hand and put on a sad expression.

"I didn't order much just now. Maddox can finish it easily if he eats more!" Kylah carried Caden and played her role to perfection. "If my dear godson wishes to eat seafood, how can I not fulfill his simple wish?"

Caden nodded vigorously in agreement.

Lucy wanted to say something more, but Maddox said softly, "Since Caden wants to have seafood, we'll all go together!"

"No, no, no, that can't do!" Kylah said quickly. "After all, we already ordered food. It costs 400 dollars. What a waste it would be if we throw it away. I'll go have seafood with Caden while you two eat here!"

Fearing that Lucy would object again, she wrapped it up. "Alright, it's settled. See you!"

"Bye mom, bye handsome uncle!" Caden leaned against Kylah's shoulder and smiled like an angel.

Lucy was speechless.

Even if she was a fool, she could tell that Kylah wanted to set her and Maddox up on a blind date!

How badly did Kylah want to get her off the market?

"If you're worried about Caden, we can go with them." Seeing Lucy's dazed look, Maddox thought she was worried about her son.

"Uhm..." She didn't think of Maddox that way, so being alone with him was pretty awkward.

They paid the bill, and Lucy told the waiter not to serve the food so that it wouldn't go to waste.

Kylah and Caden were sitting in a seafood restaurant, clinking their glasses of juice in celebration. However, before they could put their glasses back onto the table, Kylah saw Lucy and Maddox walking in.

"Aunt Kylah?" Caden sprawled on the table and waved his hand at her.

"Stop waving!" Kylah caught his chubby hand and jerked her chin in Lucy's direction. "Your mother and your potential dad are here!"

Caden turned around. When he saw them, a look of despair came over his face.

Can't his mother just go on a date? How difficult!
