"That's good."
Gwenyth had no interest in his private affairs.
She just came for the three million. No matter what Edison's purpose was, she just needed to play her role and get the money.
She lowered her head and signed the two agreements.
After signing the agreements, Edison handed one of them to her.
Gwenyth folded the agreement and put it into her backpack.
"Can I leave now?" she asked.
"Go to the dinner party with me at nine o'clock," said Edison.
"It's half past five now," responded Gwenyth.
"We have to eat first," said Edison.
"I can go back home for dinner. Call me before nine o'clock and send me the address of the dinner party. I will be there on time," Gwenyth said clearly before picking up her bag and leaving.
Edison didn't stop her.
Gwenyth left the hotel through the employee passage. On her way back, she bought bags of pots, bowls, plates, and some fresh ingredients.
Ursula was working in a convenience store near the neighborhood. She would take Susie with her during working hours. Since Ursula was on duty now, she couldn't come back home.
Gwenyth took the stuff to the kitchen, washed the ingredients, and began to prepare dinner.
It was never difficult for Gwenyth to cook. There were three women in her family. Her sister couldn't take care of herself and needed others' care, while her mother was busy with working. Gwenyth had learned to cook when she was twelve years old. At first, she just made some simple dishes. Later, she learned a lot from Ursula about how to make nutritious food. Even if Gwenyth wanted to apply for a position of nutritionist, it wouldn't be difficult for her.
But she didn't get the certificate and was not interested in being a nutritionist.
Four years ago, Gwenyth had been admitted to the best design college in the Zelicon City, the college that she had dreamed of. She could have a bright future, but because her uncle ran away after owing a debt, Gwenyth and her family lived a miserable life. In order to avoid debt collectors, they moved countless times and changed countless places. Therefore, Gwenyth didn't go to college, and she had just graduated from high school.
Although life was getting worse, Gwenyth didn't give up hope. Since she couldn't go to college, she saved money to buy some books on fashion design for self-study.
However, due to her inferior educational background and unprofessional learning, the resumes submitted to the major clothing design companies were all in vain.
Because she often moved, Gwenyth always changed her job.
After moving to this apartment, she had worked with Ursula in the convenience store in the first place, but the working time was too long and the salary was low. Therefore, Gwenyth found herself a job as a room attendant in the hotel.
The salary was twice as much as that of a convenience store, and she only worked eight hours a day in the hotel.
That was also the main reason why she didn't want to give up the job even though Edison made things difficult for her.
When the dinner was ready, Gwenyth checked the time. It was almost eight o'clock. Ursula was about to come back with Susie.
Gwenyth placed the dishes on the table and took a seat, waiting for them.
Suddenly, the phone in her pocket rang, and she received a text message.
Gwenyth lowered her head and took out her phone. It was an unfamiliar number, with four 8s in the end. The text showed a private room number on the fourth floor of the Nightcharm Club. From the arrogant number, she knew that it was Edison.
Gwenyth saved the number with a note of "Boss."
After replying "received", she heard the sound of someone opening the door with a key, and she quickly put the phone back into her pocket.
When Ursula led Susie into the apartment, they found that dinner was ready. Ursula then took Susie to the bathroom to wash their faces and hands.
"Gwen, are you going to get your salary?" Ursula's voice came from the bathroom.
"Yes, next week," responded Gwenyth.
"When you get a salary, can you buy a new fridge at a low price online?" asked Ursula.
When they moved in, it was still very cold. The apartment was rented at a low price without heating, and the food could be stored for many days.
Now the temperature was higher, and things couldn't be stored for long.
Ursula had just been paid for a few days. She had intended to buy a fridge. But yesterday, those debt collectors came to her and took away all her money. Today, Gwenyth still had to leave Ursula and Susie some money to buy their food before going out.
"Okay. I'll check it online after I get my salary." Gwenyth was hungry, so she picked up her fork and began to eat.
"You don't have to buy an expensive fridge. Just buy a small one about one hundred dollars. It's fine as long as it can be used," reminded Ursula.
Gwenyth nodded and thought of the place Edison had asked her to go. She looked at the bathroom and saw Ursula and Susie walking towards her.
"Mom, I have to go out in a while," said Gwenyth.
Ursula sat opposite Gwenyth and served some soup to Susie.
"Why?" asked Ursula. NôvelDrama.Org copyrighted © content.
"I'm going to attend a colleague's birthday party," answered Gwenyth.
Ursula looked at her in surprise. "Is it a male colleague or a female colleague?"
"A female colleague."
It was the first time that Gwenyth had lied to her family. Her heart thumped. Afraid that she seemed unnatural, she didn't dare to look into Ursula's eyes.
Gwenyth lowered her head and took a bite of food. Pretending to be calm, she said, "I'm afraid I'll be back late today. Go to bed early. Don't wait for me."
It was almost nine o'clock when Gwenyth went out. She didn't know the specific location of the Nightcharm Club. Afraid that being late would cause Edison's dissatisfaction, she had to take a taxi. When she arrived at half past nine o'clock, she had traveled half of the city. The taxi fee made her feel bad.
The Nightcharm Club was a resplendent and magnificent place, with entertainment, accommodation, and bath service. Its decoration was luxurious and high-end, and it was not a place that ordinary people could afford.
Edison said that they were going to have a business dinner, so Gwenyth wore a set of formal clothes with a white shirt and black suit pants, looking professional. She had prepared it for her interview, but she didn't get any response from the companies she had submitted her resume to. The clothes had been hung in the wardrobe for a year, and they were almost dusty.
Gwenyth took the elevator to the fourth floor and came to the door of the private room mentioned in Edison's text message. Then, she pushed the door open and walked in.
There was a man and two women in the room.
The man was very young and handsome with slicked-back hair and the collar of his white shirt open. The two women beside him had pulled and unbuttoned his shirt, and two buttons had been sent away.
As soon as Gwenyth came in, one of the buttons fell on her feet.
The man held the two women in his arms and looked Gwenyth up and down, appearing a little drunk. "Now you like to wear a business suit now?"
The two women were amused by his words.
"Mr. Hawe, you really like to joke. If we all dress like her, how can we do the job?"
The man kept smiling and seemed to be in a good mood.
Gwenyth stepped back to the door to confirm the room number.
It was just the private room mentioned in the text message.
She didn't go to the wrong place.
She looked at the three people on the sofa and said, "Excuse me! Sorry to bother you! May I ask if Edison has arrived?"
John's eyes widened in surprise. It was the first time that he had heard a woman call him Edison by his name.
"What's your name?" asked John.
"Gwenyth Lovelace."
It sounded familiar.
John fixed his eyes on Gwenyth's face, feeling that he had either met Gwenyth before or heard her name from someone, but he just couldn't think of it.
"Eddie will be here soon. You may sit down and wait for him here."
Gwenyth nodded and took a seat at a corner of the sofa. Without putting down her bag, she held it in her arms and straightened up.
It was the first time that she had come to such an occasion, and she felt uncomfortable all over.
She thought John was a business partner Edison was going to meet, but she didn't know that the owner of this luxurious club was John.
When she entered the private room, John thought she was a newcomer to the public relations department, and he couldn't help but tease her because she looked pretty, but wore conservative clothes.
John didn't expect that she was here for Edison.
He let go of the two women beside him, took out his phone, and texted Edison on WhatsApp. "A woman is looking for you."
Edison, who didn't like to respond to others' messages, replied in a second, "I'll be there right away."
It shocked John.
