Chapter 1909
Why did he have to complain over such trivial matters?
Abruptly, she remembered that Elijah had told her that he would ensure her peace for the rest of her life. Her heart was stirred up yet again. Carolien immediately waved her hand.
"Do the same thing if it happens again in the future."
She was in no mood to play nice that day.
It was a good idea. It saved her the trouble of having to deal with ruffians and hooligans every day. She had to serve every one of them. If not, there would be all kinds of conflict.
If they wanted to take advantage of her, she would let them have a taste of high interest rates.
She pondered and figured that it probably wouldn't be too troublesome for Elijah's men to collect interest once every year. Begging him to help was better than having to service those people.
Nodding, Caroline added, "Be firm about it. Just call the police if they don't cooperate or make a fuss."
"Huh?"
Somewhat unable to believe his own ears, the waiter's mouth kept opening and closing. Seeing that Carolien did not seem to be joking, he finally gave a delayed nod.
"Okay."
Turning around, the waiter slipped away again.
Picking up the cocktail, Carolien glanced at table four on the side. After the waiter briefly explained things to them, she saw the two people taking out their wallets. Her crimson lips couldn't help but twitch.
"Hmph. That's how the world works, alright."
Sure enough, it was survival of the fittest.
In the past, she had patiently and kindly tried to convince and beg them, and even let them have their way many times. She was often bullied by others with no way to fight back and absolutely humiliated. Right then, it was so simple. It felt good to have power. Some people were stubborn as a donkey. They could only be sent away by force.
She saw the two of them gloomily make their way to the door with their heads lowered. They didn't even dare to breathe too loudly. Carolien raised her glass, took another sip of her cocktail, and snorted,
"They could just come and have a good time, but they insist on making trouble," she grumbled.
Didn't they know that even the kindest of people would bite when provoked?
They had gradually forced her to resort to such measures. Otherwise, nobody would provoke Elijah in favor of living a good life. It was a pity that people always bit off more than they could chew.
To put it bluntly, no one was really winning here.
Putting down the wine glass, Carolien bitterly pursed her lips and said, "I'm going to rest. If anything happens, look for me in the office."
With that, she grabbed her handbag and strolled inside. Back then, she was never able to relax when she was at Misty's. There was always work to do. Sometimes, she was too nervous to relax. Every night, she was exhausted to the bone. Ever since she started relying on Elijah, everything had gotten much better, especially since she dragged him away that day in front of everyone. With an ace like him by her side, most people didn't dare to make trouble for her anymore, because they were afraid of causing collateral damage. Things had settled down a lot.
In that aspect, Carolien felt grateful to Elijah from the bottom of her heart.
In the end, she still benefited from someone else.noveldrama
"Why am I thinking about him again?"
Carolien couldn't help frowning as she stopped in her tracks. It wasn't like they were close. Was it really worth it?
She fiercely shook her head and went into the office.
She made a cup of coffee and sat down at the table. However, her mind was completely blank. She glanced around, but ended up not knowing what to do.
She turned on the computer and opened up a random video, then propped her chin up on her hand and pulled out a ledger. Flipping through it, the numbers on the pages filled her vision. On the plain-looking paper, she drew a bunch of cute characters. There was an older one leading a younger one, and one with a chubby face. They were all stupidly adorable. She also scribbled the words "get lost" in a speech bubble above the largest character, and labeled the characters with the numbers 1, 2, 3, and so on.
She drew another character with a leaf growing out of its head. As she was thinking about what kind of expression to draw this time, Carolien happened to look down and realized that the biggest character out of all the ones she drew had straight eyebrows. It looked domineering, and its impatient expression showed that it was also very aggressive. Across from it, there was a line of smaller people. All of them were either frowning with aggrieved expressions, or they looked miserable. There was only one normal person, who was still blinking and acting cute.
Unable to restrain herself, Carolien chuckled. "Isn't that just like us?"
She laughed. For the last one, she drew a character that was rolling its eyes and made sure to draw its eyeballs as high up as she could. She also added two adorable blushes on its face and drew a tiny mouth. Around it, she sketched a bunch of tinier characters, then added another speech bubble that said "I'm not leaving!"
While she was having fun, she heard a sudden rush of knocking on the door. The moment she looked up, Carolien's smile fell. "Come in! What is it this time?"
What was their problem? Couldn't they let her rest even for a moment?
"Miss Jones, Mr. Luther is here. He brought two people with him and went to the largest private room. Danica asked me to tell you and ask if you want to send something over."
Carolien's eyes shone. She straightened up instantly as if all her muscles had tensed up. "Elijah?"
The waiter nodded again.
Waving her hand, Carolien said, "Go do whatever you need to. I will deal with it."
As soon as the door of the room was closed, she jumped up from the seat and immediately took a bottle of precious red wine. Then, she seemed to have remembered something and rushed into the bathroom. She tidied up her hair and touched up her makeup before carrying the basket of wine downstairs.
There wasn't much space in Misty's, and the largest, most extravagant private rooms were all on the third floor. On top of that, the first room was the best in terms of both facilities and decoration. Although the room itself only cost about 10,000 dollars including the service fee, the price of booking the room was at least 50,000 dollars. However, for a small establishment like theirs, those rooms typically
weren't used. Because of that, Misty's had less than four rooms like that. Most of the rooms were ordinary karaoke rooms.
Misty's was a nightclub, a place for entertainment. However, it was also a date spot. Most of the time, it was just providing a convenient and relaxing place for people. In fact, it pretty much functioned the same as a hotel. Despite that, it was run as a nightclub. The reason why they opened a nightclub instead of a hotel was that nightclubs had high income and low demand.
After going downstairs, Carolien saw two bodyguards at the entrance of the private room. She walked straight over and began, "I'm the boss-"
As soon as she opened her mouth, the bodyguard withdrew his hand that was blocking her way. Obviously, someone had already told him, or he knew who she
was.
She took a step forward and gently knocked on the door twice.
That was because she didn't know who he had brought and whether they were talking business. Thus, she didn't dare to knock too hard, in case she disturbed them.
"Come in!"
Hearing a clear voice from inside, she slowly pushed the door open and walked in with a perfectly trained smile on her face.
Upon stepping in, she saw that there was only Elijah on the sofa. She stepped forward and subconsciously glanced around. "Welcome, Mr. Luther. It's an honor!
I'm here to deliver you a bottle of wine. It's a new bottle of Lafite. Feel free to have a taste!"
Hm? Hadn't he brought two people with him?
As he stared at her, Elijah's cold lips subconsciously revealed a hint of a smile. "Stop looking around. There's no one else here."
"Huh?"
The moment her gaze fell on him, Carolien was stunned. Why had he booked a whole room if he came alone?
Because of the sudden incident,
Elijah was incredibly busy throughout that period of time. He had to go on consecutive business trips, attend meetings, and deal with various emergencies. He was so busy that he didn't even have enough time to sleep. From time to time, he would think of her. When he finished his work, his legs seemed to have a mind of their own. He clearly had to go home and rest, but he still took a detour.
When he caught sight of her right then, Elijah suddenly didn't feel tired at all. Raising his hand, he patted his leg.
Carolien suddenly came back to her senses. With a smile, she turned sideways and put the wine basket on the table. After a few big steps, Carolien moved over and sat cross-legged on top of him. Her slender arms wrapped around his neck as she beamed happily.
The unexpectedly ambiguous posture left Elijah a bit startled, all kinds of images popped up in his mind. He lowered his eyes slightly and lifted his hands to hold her. With one hand around her waist, he pulled her toward him while leaning forward.
"Did you miss me?" he murmured.
She was such a fierce woman.
Any other woman would be sitting on the side shyly. Who would be so wild and unrestrained? Only a hot-tempered woman like her dared to act that way. Even so, she wasn't annoying. Instead, it made him overwhelmed with joy.
She hooked her arms around his neck in a delicate manner and pursed her red lips slightly as if she had been wronged. However, Carolien did not act pretentious. "Yeah."
They were practically attached at the hip. Their bodies were incredibly close to
each other. Their eyes met, and their noses brushed against each other. The corners of their lips were separated by a hair's breadth. Their warm breaths mingled together, making the atmosphere even more ambiguous.
"Did you overthink?"
His heart felt like it was melting. When he spoke again, his pleasant voice was dyed with endless tenderness.
Her long eyelashes flitted, staring at the fascinatingly handsome face in front of him. Tilting her head, Carolien pecked him on the cheek.
She didn't know if it was because she had been alone for too long or if
she had just reached her limit after
holding back for so many years. At that moment, she could feel his firm,
strong chest as she leaned against him and pestered him. It filled her with a sense of warmth and security. Even her heart could not help but relax. She let her mask drop and felt like a lost child. Carolien indulged himself in that long-lost feeling of greed.
Coincidentally, it had been a long time since Elijah had felt that way, too. It was indescribable, but it made him feel a little infatuated. "Is that it?"
It was unbearably soul-stirring, but no one was better at teasing than she was. Carolien curled her arm around his neck coquettishly, and then finally moved her red lips over to his. She lowered her head and gently pecked him again. She slowly pulled away. Before she could open her eyes, someone suddenly grabbed her dainty head. The next second, she felt heat against her mouth, and a powerful force engulfed her lips. She felt strong winds and heavy rain sweeping over her, instantly causing a storm, which drowned her. Creases began to form in the corner of the sofa....
What do you think?
