Chapter 95
Ella's POV
My body felt like a dead weight on me, numbness was the only feeling I could sense in my body.
If I had to describe my state, I would say that I was under a big boulder.
The memories were still floating in my mind.
Alpha Rambo, the cell, blood and wolfsbane.
I stood up with haste and what I saw made me reeling back to the sitting position. My knees became weak.
The room I found myself in was different from the dank dungeon where I'd been held before. It was cold, sterile, with no windows and only a single door across the far side of the room. Dim light filtered from an overhead fixture, casting long shadows on the walls. I struggled to sit up, my muscles weak but functioning. The chains were gone, but I was far from free.
This wasn't Moon Lake territory. The scent in the air was different-no familiar markers, no sense of home. Wherever I was now, it was far from my pack.noveldrama
My head throbbed as I tried to focus. Alpha Rambo's face loomed large in my mind, his twisted smile as he injected me with wolfbane. Instinctively, I reached out to feel for Nathan and Tristan through the mate bond, but there was... nothing. My heart sank as the emptiness hit me like a punch to the gut. The bond had been severed. He'd done it. He'd broken the connection.
I squeezed my eyes shut, biting back the wave of panic that threatened to consume me. I couldn't let this defeat me. Not yet.
A sudden click of the door opening jerked me from my thoughts.
Alpha Rambo stepped inside, his eyes gleamed with that same dark ambition, but there was something else now-surprise.
"I have to admit," he said slowly, "you've proven more resilient than I anticipated, Ella. Most wolves would be unconscious for days after a dose of wolfbane like that. But you.....” He circled me, his eyes flickering with a hint of fascination. "You're stronger than I gave you credit for."
He crouched beside me, his gaze piercing. "It's unfortunate for you that strength won't save you this time. Your mates won't find you-not in time, anyway. I've severed your bond, and by now, I'm long gone from Moon Lake's territory."
The thought of Nathan and Tristan searching for me, helpless to sense where I was, nearly broke me. But I swallowed down the pain, forcing myself to focus. I couldn't let him see the fear.
"What's your plan, Rambo?" I asked, my voice hoarse but defiant. "Kill me after you've had your fun with the witch?"
A smirk tugged at his lips. "Fun isn't the word I'd use. It's more... research." He stood, turning away as he spoke. "The witch needs more of your blood. A rare white wolf like you-your blood holds power. It'll take three days to extract what she needs. Then, and only then, will you be... disposed of."
Three days. That was all I had left. I clenched my fists, willing the weakness from my body, the remnants of the wolfbane still sluggish in my system.
Rambo turned back to face me, his expression hardening. "Consider yourself lucky, Ella. Few get to live this long after defying me."
I met his gaze, hatred burning in my chest. "You're a coward, Rambo."
"Yeah, whatever you want to say, you can. Either way you are as good as dead." He smirked at me.
"But you know, it won't work on me. My blood is stronger than any posion you might give me. You are the one who is on borrowed time, let's see." I looked at him with disdain.
His jaw tightened, and shouted, "Claude, look after her. She is one nasty creature."
He offered a cold smile before turning to leave.
As I sat there, anxiety gnawed at me like a persistent ache. My wolf, Ava, still hadn't stirred. The bond between us felt distant, smothered by the wolfbane. I clenched my fists, frustration burning in my veins. Without her, I had no chance of escaping. And with each passing second, I could feel the clock ticking down on those three days Alpha Rambo had given me.
The door creaked open, and a man entered-Claude.
His face was full of marks and I
sfull
could see those scars running more beneath his armor. His eyes bore the mark of someone who had seen too much and survived only by burying himself in obedience. He was here to keep me contained, but it seemed he had been the lab rat for Alpha Rambo, just like Ryan.
I watched him carefully, observing every small movement. Claude stayed by the door, his arms crossed, the tension in his stance telling me more than his silence ever could.
I needed to know if there was any way to leave this place, and Claude might be the key to my escape.
I stayed quiet at first, trying not to draw attention to myself, but I could feel the weight of his gaze on me. He was watching, probably reporting back to Alpha Rambo, making sure I didn't try anything foolish.
Slowly, deliberately, I shifted on the bed, my voice soft as I spoke. "I see you."
He didn't respond, didn't move. But I saw the slight twitch in his jaw, he was listening, whether he liked it or not.
I leaned forward, lowering my voice even more. "I know what he's done to you. You think there's no way to break free, don't you? That you're stuck under his control forever."
For a moment, there was silence, thick and suffocating. Claude didn't take the bait immediately, but he didn't leave either. That was enough for me to keep pushing.
"You're not the first," I whispered, my eyes never leaving his. "I've seen it before, in others. The experiments, the conditioning, the way Rambo twists everything to make you think there's no way out. But there is."
His eyes flickered, a flash of doubt crossing his hardened expression. I stepped closer to where he stood by the door, the weight of surveillance pressing down on me, but I knew I had to take the risk.
When I was close enough, I leaned in, pretending to stumble slightly. His hand shot out to steady me, and in that split second, I whispered in his ear. "I know a way to break free. But you'll have to trust me."
I pulled back, gauging his reaction. His face remained unreadable, but I could see the struggle in his eyes. He was conflicted, torn between the loyalty he'd been conditioned to follow and the hope I'd just dangled in front of him.
I didn't push further nor did he stay more to listen, he left me with deafening
silence.
Another loss.
What do you think?
