Chapter 80
The following morning I was woken up by Tristan who was rubbing his hand around my arm and Nathan was still fast asleep.
"How long have you been awake?" I asked, without opening my eyes.
"A little while. Couldn't sleep." He said.
"Looks like Nathan can." I said, looking at Nathan as he was lightly snoring. So I turned around to face Tristan.
As soon as I did he kissed me really gently and then pulled me closer to him so my head was resting on his chest.
"How do you feel?" He asked.
"A little weird. I can feel everything that you're feeling. I can feel the connection to the pack. All of it." I said.
"Yeah. It's a little intense at first." He said.
"I'll say." I said.
I knew that we couldn't stay in bed forever, but I really did want to. I wanted to stay here, comfortable between my two mates but I knew that it was impossible. There were things to do and it wasn't long before Tristan started flicking Nathan in the face to wake him up.
"What the hell is your problem?" Nathan asked, rolling over and wrapping his arm around my waist.
"We have to go to the forest base today." Tristan said.
"Oh crap. I forgot about that." Nathan said.
We had a forest base that we were had to get to where a lot of other pack members lived and they didn't come to town that often. They weren't at the ceremony and we had to go to them.
They were expecting us today and no doubt they were going to be putting together a big party for us, so we couldn't disappoint them. It was part of our responsibility now.
When we did eventually get up we all had a shower together and we got dressed into comfortable and warm clothes because we could only drive so far to this camp. And then we had to walk the rest of the way.
So as soon as we left the house, Tristan was driving and Nathan was sitting in the backseat while I was leaning against him and we drove for about an hour before Tristan pulled the car over.
When we got out, I had to do up my jacket and I even put on my gloves because it was freezing. We were actually further north than where our town was and I didn't know how anyone could live up here.
We were at a higher elevation and it was freezing here.
Nathan took my hand and we started walking through the forest, hearing the snow crunching under our feet and I was really glad that the guys had gotten me a lot more clothes now that were more appropriate for up here. Because the stuff that I had at home doesn't compare to the boots that I'm wearing now.
It took us a while to hike through the forest as we were still going uphill, but when we finally arrived at the base, the one that was in charge was the first one to come over and greet us.
They had all felt the curse being lifted and all of the pack members came out to see the twins and to meet me.
I got so many hugs from all the women and the men barred their necks to me. They knew better than to hug another wolf's mate. They would probably get their heads ripped off.
So the leader led us into their camp and the houses were made out of stone and mud to keep as much warmth in as possible but everyone had come out to greet
us.
There was a fire in the middle of the camp and they had a huge feast being prepared on large tables near the fires that they had started outside.
I heard Tristan order them to start a few more fires if we were eating outside because I'm not used to the weather So they got straight on to it and started making a lot more fires around the middle of the camp so it would be warmer. But I could see that there was one main fire that was in the middle of the clearing between their houses and I was wondering what that was for.
The guys were talking to the leader of this camp while I saw the women hard at work.
I managed to sneak away and I followed one woman into a larger house and as soon as I walked in all of the women barred their necks to me.
"I saw that you guys have been working hard since we got here. What are you doing?" I asked.
"We're cooking Luna. For the feast." One older lady answered me.
"Oh please, call me Ella. And I would love to help.” I said. But they all looked at each other strangely.
"We've really got it under control." She said.
"I know. But I thought this would be a good way for me to get to know you as well." I said. So she smiled at me and agreed.
So I walked over to them and I helped them start to peel the vegetables and I got to learn their names and who their mates were. All of their mates in this camp were warriors. They had to be in case of an attack. Except for the younger ones that hadn't found their mates yet. And they talked about their children and how many children they had.noveldrama
That made sense to me. I did see a lot of kids running around and having fun outside.
I eventually saw the twins come into the building and they saw me talking with all the women while I was working but I just smiled at them and I kept doing what I was doing. I
was having a good time was net
know them. And they were really nice women. They treated me with respect, but I knew that they had to, but it was more than that as well. I think they were surprised that I was actually willing to help with what they thought was menial labor.
As soon as the food was ready we took everything outside and started cooking
them over an open flame and everything smelt and looked so delicious.
The younger girls were setting the tables that were set up outside.
There were three long tables and they were setting a place for everyone.
One table just for the kids. And then we all sat down and the leader stood up and gave a speech. Just after him, his mate, who was the older woman that I was talking to while I was helping in the kitchen, got up and also gave a speech.
"Today was the first time I had ever seen a Luna do menial work just so she could sit there and talk to the women of this camp. I have to say that our new Luna of this pack is like nothing we have ever seen. She has not only lifted the curse that plagued us but she is the best choice of Luna that the Moon Goddess could have given us. And we will follow you wherever you take us." She said, raising her glass and I smiled at her.
We sat around eating a great meal and then people were loosening up a lot and
some of the kids were dancing around the large fire, so I walked over and I asked
if I could join them. Of course they said that I could, so I started dancing with the
kids and whichever one could hold my hand, would. The ones that were closest to
me.
"Excuse me, sir. Do you mind if I cut in?" Tristan asked the young boy that I was dancing with.
"Okay." He said, shyly. So Tristan grabbed me and pulled me close and started dancing with me and so did Nathan.
This was probably the happiest I had felt in a really long time. I didn't even notice
the cold as it was getting dark but we were dancing around the fire and pretty soon we were joined by all the other people in the camp as well.
What do you think?
